I got this book for my online microeconomics class, and was very impressed by it, so much that it made me leave a review here which I've never done before. I don't particularly enjoy reading much, let alone reading a textbook, but this book was a page turner! I really like the way the author writes. There are so many interesting stories that are relative to the topics the author's discussing in each chapter that not only help you get through the book without your mind wandering off every 5 second, but they help you understand the difficult concepts with ease. I had no prior knowledge at all in economics but it didn't matter. My class doesn't have any lectures, so it is basically like study on my own, but I feel like this book alone has taught me so much. Now I'm going to go and search for whatever Landsburg has written. He's really good!
As other reviewers have pointed out the book gives a clear, readable introduction to microeconomics. I would characterize it as an introduction, despite others' comments that it is "Intermediate Level". There are plenty of simple examples along with counter-intuitive illustrations of the principles. Those are particularly fun and what you'd expect based on Landsburg's popular economics books.Everything is presented by showing graphs and diagrams, which helps you to think about the principles graphically. You also can read this book without knowing much mathematics.Actually, I found it strange that the mathematical part was relegated to an appendix at the end of the book. There are many explanations that could have been clearer if they had been incorporated into the text.
This book was used for a graduate level Microeconomics class. Pretty easy to follow since I had never taken econ. before. I ordered my book as the international version because I was able to get it for 1/2 the price of the US version. There was no difference except in the cover design. Several other students in my class had done the same thing. $156.00 is just too much for any book. I was able to get mine new for $80.00! The ISBN # of the international version is ISBN: 978-0-324-64517-0 (Also sold on ). The workbook that goes with it is US version only so no price break. It is a handy workbook though. I found the INFO-trac site to be a waste and most of my classmates didn't even open their code card.
it is hard to tell what level of knowledge this book is meant for. Definitely not close to an intermediate text.
Book arrived a day earlier than promised, and is in excellent condition. I would HIGHLY recommend this seller.
