My instructor liked this purchase so much, she bought her own. She says it's a nice step between Suzuki book 2 and 3 for me. She also says the songs offer some progression in difficulty.The first song in the book is widely performed on YouTube, so I can hear several examples of it to supplement my own practice. There is also a CD enclosed with the book.
First of all, I'm argentinian. Getting sheet music for popular music here (specially for the violin) is kind of hard. This book has a very nice sampling of everything I wanted to learn. Having said that, the real deal: this book is beautiful. It has an excellent selection of pieces and all of them are arranged beautifully. It doesn't have a lot of traditional tangos (as one would guess by the name), but it's still a book I'm incredibly happy to have bought. On the difficulty level, I've been playing the violin for a little over a year and I consider myself to be an advanced beginner (for reference, I can play most of Suzuki 3 with some difficulty, and a few of Susuki 4 poorly). Most of the pieces in the book are difficult for me, but almost none of them are impossible with some practice. If you like chamame, gato, tango, zamba and/or cueca treat yourself to this book. It's worth it even if it's only to listen the CD and follow along the sheet music.
The book came today in the mail,and I already played the first two tangos (did not have time to explore the whole book yet ).They where absolutely wonderful !My only regret is that the accompaniment does not give the player a choice of eliminating one channel or the other,so the pieces can be performed as truly play -alongs. But even like this,they are very enjoyable.
