Anytime you read a book by Joel Osteen you will put it down feeling encouraged and ready to face any difficulty you are dealing with. If, however, you are wanting an in-depth book about Biblical principles you might want to look elsewhere. I gave this book 5/5 stars. I liked the ease of reading this book, the author’s ideas and stories flow from one to the other. I did think that some of the material was familiar, like maybe I had read some of the stories or ideas in one of his other books. That said, it is still an enjoyable and uplifting read. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a few words of encouragement in their walk with the Lord.I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
I like reading the books from Joel because it is always positive uplifting message. I definitely recommend it, especially if you are down due to the economic and political situations we have today.
If you want to feel good about life this book gives you the tools to realize if comes down to faith. The best part of the book is that is not just words there are clear examples that everyone can relate to. A must read
Joel is an amazing man of God. I am really enjoying his new book and I have read all of his other books as well but I believe that he has to get away from using the same material in every book. He should stay away from that because it makes the book boring if I have already read some of his previous testimonies in one of his other books. You want to keep your books fresh and full of new ideas and testimonies. By doing this I will be less hesitant to buy his next book. God Bless!!!!
I saw a complaint that the book was like Joel's sermons. SO WHAT! Almost all teachers do exactly the same. (Joyce Meyer for example. ) The fact Joel shared this in church does NOT take away from the truth. I was blessed by the book. I have given away 5 copies so far. The book is very positive and urges you too trust the Word of God. I don't have a problem with that!
As I read this book, I realized that it is a compilation of sermons from his church he delivered in Houston that are televised and I've read them also in other books. While still inspiring, he needs to come up with fresh writing material and insights and not keep regurgitating the same material. Don't get me wrong, I really like Joel, but this is just cashing in on the same material book after book
This is the first book by Joel Osteen I've ever read and ironically I read it for a class in seminary that was contrasting the Bible and the Christian NY Times Best Sellers. So we looked at the book objectively and tried to read it thoroughly and with respect for the author. In this particular text, Rev. Osteen is loose with his use and interpretation of the Bible. He says things that sound good but quotes scripture like a machine gun spitting it out without any regard for exegesis or even context. This is one of those time you've probably heard of where you could use the Bible to say whatever you wanted to say. In reality, you really can't. You might find something that sounds like what you want it to say but in context and with translation the Bible is saying what it is saying and not what we want it to say at all. With all due respect to Mr. Osteen, he's using the Bible to say what he might believe it is saying but, even as he boasts, he has not been to seminary and IMHO he could stand to attend a class or two on theology and Biblical interpretation. My recommendations, if you're going to read this book, is to take the scripture references he gives you and go back and read them in context and see what the scripture is really saying. I did this through several chapters of his book, which is a monumental task in itself given how much scripture he quotes. Unfortunately none of it seems to be saying what Joel Osteen says it is saying; or more aptly, the scripture isn't saying what Joel Osteen is saying. I would not recommend this book to anyone as I believe it would do damage to someone's pursuit of Christ and truth.
I like Joel Osteen, and every week I watch and/or listen to his messages. Great guy. Love him. This book, however, was disappointing. When I started reading it, I at first thought I had made a mistake and downloaded a book I already read, but no, it's the new one. Problem is, it is just a re-hash of the same stories and parables that I've heard many times before. Whereas the messages are worth repeating, I would have preferred a new edition of a book he published before -- at least then, I'd not have the expectations of something new!I like Joel, and I was eager to read the book. But if you've read any of his prior books or frequently listen to his messages, this book isn't anything you haven't heard at least once before.Love Joel, just not a fan of this book that left me thinking I had already read it ....
