Reading about Holocaust survivor stories has always been an overwhelming experience for me. And this book has given me so much about it that it brought tears to my eyes. And indeed, these people are heroes in their own right. My heart goes out to the refugees who endured so much. I think book has been well researched and its goal clearly expressed--to expose some things not all people know. The rescuers/heroes deserve all the recognition they must have.
This book compiles the most heart-wrenching yet inspiring stories of the Holocaust heroes and refugees. Each story captures your heart, you'll vividly imagine the hardships these people had to endure and you'll be pretty amazed by their determination, to name a few, Maria Kotarba, Varian Fry and here's the story of Nancy Wake and how she intelligently evaded the naziz. Inspiring indeed!
Very informing book! This book has been somewhat nostalgic to me because it dwells in history; particularly, in Nazi Germany. If this book is what it tells it to be: true story, then this book's worth putting into a movie because it is the actual point of view of a Jewish survivor who have experienced the actual horrors in being in Germany at that time where anything that moves is killed. I like the writing so much, really. So much worth reading book!
This book makes me informed of what really happens in the past especially during World War 2. This is a reminder for all of us that even in times where morality is lost, there is still hope for humanity from some benevolent individuals who are brave enough to fight against evil. They are brave heroes who risked all their lives so that we could have a better today and tomorrow. Very well-written book and I greatly recommend this book to all.
I actually heard some stories about the holocaust which was told to me by my dad after he visited the holocaust museum. I am really happy to have gotten this book. This is because the story felt more really since it was told by someone who was present around that times. I am very happy i wasn't born during the time of the Holocaust. The book is well written and explanatory.
This book proves that humans are really are a multifaceted species. The Holocaust is a phrase that is often used to describe the biggest event of mass murders to ever happen in the history of humanity. But, there were some heroes whom we can never forget. In this book, we will learn about some of these noble souls. Their heroic stories are very moving and will strengthen your faith in humanity. We must read many of this genre books for a civilized society.
WWII interests me limitless! I want to know every detail there is to know. THe holocaust is part of that. I liked this book very much! It was a horrible time, but Raymond managed to capture it so well, that you can enjoy reading the horrible stories.
It's very important to learn what really happened in the past and I can say that this book by Jennings did great about reminding us what happened during WW2. This book gave me a clear and detailed view of who those heroes are and what their accomplishments are in times where there seemed to be no hope. This is a must-read book to those who wants to know the true stories of rescuers that saved holocaust refugees. Overall, I'll give this book five stars.
