I have been doing clay for 50 years and working with paperclay for 20 years. This is the best resource I have found for paperclay. I even learned some new things and was stimulated by the ideas in the book. Rosette describes alternate ways of working with paperclay, including several "non-linear" approaches. This expands the options for creating with clay. The book itself is a non-linear creation, with many inspiring photos and techniques, just enough technical information, and lots of tips on how to do things.
The New Ceramics: Paperclay Art and Practice by Rosette Gault is a meditation in possibility. Even for those who are not involved in the creation of paperclay work this lovely book provides a worthwhile journey. The photographs of such diversity in approach have encouraged me to expand my vision and heart. Thank you to the author and the several hundred international artists who took part in this sharing. -Francesca Mason Boring
Rosette has created another wonderful text with fresh ideas and techniques that compliment her previous works about paper clay. The techniques are presented clearly with accompanied illustrations. The diversity of images of both new and established artist's works illustrate the possibilities of what can be achieved with both fired and unfired paper clay. This is a great resource for educators and students and a great addition to your studio reference library.
This is the best book Rosette Gault has yet released. The images are informative and some bare quite inspiring. Paper clay is a medium any art teacher needs to explore, this book is great for the beginner or the more advanced artist.
I want to thank Rosette Gault for creating this wonderful book. It is filled with great information and pictures about Paperclay and all the amazing things that can be accomplished with it. I have been inspired with ideas for new projects. I appreciate all the work and research Rosette has done to develop Paperclay and make it available to artists like myself. Paperclay has allowed me to do things in my sculpting that I couldn't with regular clay. I love it. Rosette's previous books are also great and very helpful.
Great pictures of finished items! Helps a person to realize what is possible with paper clay. The technical language used in parts of the book is somewhat daunting, however. I've asked a potter friend of mine to read certain parts to explain the author is talking about - obviously not written with the neophyte or casual potter in mind - but fun, none-the-less.I've actually started a couple of projects using ideas from this book - it would have been helpful if the book had actually given detailed instructions for a few projects - this may be covered in some of her other books, though.Very cool medium. Using paper clay I have been able to make much more delicate items than I can with traditional porcelain or stoneware clays.
So great to see that this author given a do-over chance chose to completely rewrite her first book and provide us with this STELLAR version of the same topic. It's everything I'd wished for in the first version yet I'm so grateful that Gault took the time and effort to give us this absolutely fantastic book. Have recommended it to a number of ceramic artist friends who likewise all jumped on board and love it.
It's a very good reference book for any ceramic artist's library. It doesn't have all that much new if you have followed Rosette Gault, but you do get new ideas, seeing the things ceramists are doing these days. Well worthwhile.
