This book certainly had potential. The story of Alaskan serial killer Israel Keyes is intriguing, since Keyes was quite unusual in his meticulous planning, above-average intelligence, and studious interest in other serial killers. Because of Keyes's suicide, there are more unanswered questions than answers, but a good book could still be crafted from the available information. This, however, is not that book.Parts of the book are interesting and well-written. A few parts even provide some insights. But a good 70% is redundant, disjointed, and just plain boring. It's like the author gave up at some point and just started cobbling together quotes from interrogation transcripts, social media, news programs, etc., without bothering to craft a story or even create segues between quotes. I don't care about soundbites from Dr. Drew and Nancy Grace, and I also don't need to read pages and pages devoted to transcripts of Keyes and detectives discussing the bureaucracy of the judicial system.I would have much preferred more detail and story about the one part of the book that was truly interesting -- the family of Keyes, especially his ex-wife Tammie and daughter Sarah, and the enormous discrepancy that existed between "family Israel" and "monster Israel." With Tammie's apparent willingness to talk, I feel that there was a lot of potential there for a unique look at the impact on (and later healing of) an unknowing family with a monster in their midst. More exploration into Keyes's upbringing and family history would have been welcome, as well.I also found the persistent emphasis on Christianity a bit odd.
