Even though this is a comic book version of Robert Renteria's book "From the Barrio to the Board Room" it really brings the story of "rags to riches" to life. In some ways, this story is about anyone who had a hard life and lived in poverty in a bad neighborhood. I know that I can relate to many things brought out in this volume in my own personal life. The wonderful thing about this story is that it shows no matter what kind of life and family you were born into, you can become successful and achieve the American dream, BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK HARDER THAN ANYONE ELSE TO ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS.The book begins with the author's birth in a bad area of Los Angeles and he tells of the struggle his mother had working all kinds of jobs to provide a home and food on the table. After they were evicted from their apartment they had to live with his grandparents and uncle. Things became even worse when his mother married an alcoholic. He also had a head injury and had to overcome that problem. He not only recovers from that injury but eventually joined the U.S. Army (Interestingly, the service helped straighten out many young men, me included)and came out with an honorable discharge.He eventually became an amazing business success. When another young man asked him the secret of his success he told the man two words. 'HARD WORK." This simple bit of advice is the secret to achieving anything. This man had what I call the "WORK ETHIC." This is what is NOW needed in our country more than anything else. Unfortunately, this simple principle is often not emphasized and what we have now is a welfare and entitlement culture instead of one based upon America's founding principles.In conclusion, this book should be read and taught to all children and ADULTS to emphasize that in America one can achieve amazing things with HARD WORK and PERSISTENCE.Rating: 5 Stars.
