“Nora Ephron—the Last Interview and Other Conversations” includes interviews by Michael S. Lasky, Patrick McGilligan, Kerry Lauerman, and Kathryn Borel, whose piece was published shortly before Ephron’s death at seventy-one. This collection provides a concise and entertaining look at the life of a legendary individual who was multi-talented, charming, and refreshingly down-to-earth. Ephron reminisces about the bad old days when female reporters were treated as window dressing. She also touches on her childhood as the daughter of two successful writers; her three marriages; career as a freelance writer, novelist, columnist, essayist, screenwriter, and director; and thoughts about illness and aging. Over the years, Ephron covered “pretty much everything: crimes, politics, fluff, famous people, New York, heat waves, real estate, the women’s movement…to name a few.”Ephron claims that she never needed a thesaurus because her prose, for the most part, flowed naturally. When it did not, she simply took a break and tried again. If a fellow author complained about being “blocked,” Nora encouraged him or her to stop fussing and get on with it. She faced challenges with energy and determination, and diligently absorbed information to prepare for new undertakings. Nora Ephron enjoyed great success but was unafraid of failure; expressed gratitude to those who encouraged and mentored her; and relished delicious food, dear friends, laughter, and the satisfaction of a job well done. She was an extraordinarily gifted yet self-deprecating individual who transformed comedy and tragedy into art.

Wanted to congratulate her son on the biopic but maybe he will read this? Hope so, I thought this was a good compilation with no particular theme. I would love to hear it in her voice, maybe like Diana Vreeland's book DV? I miss her and I am glad writing Heartburn wasn't terrible for her. Thanks.

really enjoyed reading interviews by several different interviewers. Nora Ephron was a unique individual and these various interviewers managed to capture different phases.

Extremely interesting. Actually the entire series is interesting. Am now reading the Last Interview with Hannah Arendt.
