This came so quickly --- saved the my son from missing his lesson. This is the book we use as his school.... So I really can't comment if it is that great... But the school band and teacher are wonderful... So I would think it should get 5 stars.
The CDs are nice to hear what it is you are supposed to sound like and to play along with after you get the piece down. Do get both book 1 and 2 if this is the series you are going to use. Once you get going, it doesn't take long to want more pieces to play.
I started to use this book during my first year of middle school, and learned all the basics with it. I'm not sure if all schools use this same book but my school was probably one of the best, probably because of this book and our instructor. This book is very simple to understand and includes pictures in color that make it more interesting. We used this book for learning, and for playing at concerts. In one year our class went from not knowing how to clean and put our instrument together, to playing intermediate songs. I would highly recommend it to someone who is just beginning. As for some people saying it included wrong notes, I had never seen them but I could be wrong. This book also includes exercises at the bottom of the page, which are great for teachers to use as quick homework.
Amazing book. I used it to learn clarinet, bass clarinet and I even used the clarinet music to help learn tenor saxophone and I love it. I still have my book and I'm in highschool, you will love looking back and seeing how far you have come as a musician. You may advance as a musician but you will always need the basics in this book. It's worth it. Just buy it.
My grandson is in the band at his middle school and he plays the clarinet. I bought him a clarinet so he could get away from renting and he needed a book to be able to practice over the summer. He used this book during the school year but he had nothing to use at home. He loves the book and uses it regularly. Both of us are happy with this purchase.
This beginning clarinet book helps new players to learn everything about their instrument, from putting it together and caring for it over time, to learning basic fingerings and how to read sheet music. Overall, an outstanding beginner-level introduction to the clarinet. Enjoy!
I was very disappointed that the CD was omitted from this book. It may have been stated in the description but I just sort of assumed that it would be a complete addition. The book itself is fine but the CD would've been a lot better to have with it.
This is a great book for someone just starting to learn alto sax. It's aimed at middle school kids, but I'm 54 years old and used the AoA book for French horn and found it very useful. It teaches notes and fingerings one at a time, with a page of exercises for each. It goes very slowly. You'll still need a teacher to help you with things like taking care of the reed and playing without honking, but this is a great book if you're just starting out. Many teachers use it.
