I am so glad I purchased this book! Mimi Bondi's positive and encouraging step-by-step instructions are very clear and easy to follow and there are photos to go along with each step. I love mixed media, but spend a lot of time staring at the blank pages of my art journal, not to mention having been terrified to work on a canvas. It's very easy to open this book and just start painting, ending up with a piece of art, (yes, even on a canvas) that you'll love. The photos in the book are just gorgeous and the colors are so happy.I can't say enough about how wonderful "No Shenanigans!" is. I believe anyone who buys it will love it!
This is a wonderful book, which I have not been able to put down. Mimi Bondi explains and shows each step very clearly, and for a beginner in this area, I truly thank her. The pictures are beautiful, and color, oh, so much wonderful color in each project, it just makes you feel good to see what she has done and is willing to share. I do not like to pre-order anything, but I took a chance, and I am not disappointed at all, actually over joyed.
This is a great book both for beginners and for anyone who wants to learn how to make a multi-layered background. She also has a few examples, complete with step by step instructions, of art journal pages with focal points, including the one on the cover. What makes this book unusual is that it really does have step by step instructions for all of the pages shown in the book.When you are just starting out, either in mixed media, or in learning a new technique, it helps to have step by step instructions. There is only one bad review of this book at the present time, and the author of that review is correct that if you are copying someone else's work, you aren't being creative. But what you are doing is learning. So if you want to learn, this is a good book for doing that.I, by the way, have owned the book she suggests instead, and it is also a good book in its own way. I drew my first face from that book.
I stumbled onto Mimi's videos on YouTube and was instantly addicted to her art and methods. IF you want to try working with mixed media, or even just acrylic paints, you can not find a better book. It's inspiring and the images you learn to create are gorgeous! Creating art should not be stressful and with Mimi it isn't. Pick up a copy of this book and don't be afraid to get your hands dirty. I've taken years of art lessons, but Mimi is the one who really freed me to create without fear. Forget the other books, once you create one of the pieces out of this book, you won't need to ever buy another one.
I am totally new to art, have never lifted a paint brush since elementary school. Mimi teaches you how to relax and enjoy the process. She lets you see this as having fun and forgetting about perfection. This is totally a No Shenanigans type of art process. I love Mimi's style and her attitude. Highly recommend.
Love this book - the only reason I've given it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it was cut wrong by the printer - the book is still usable but it was a little disappointing- no reflection on the artist or the contents.
Beautiful, helpful book, by a lovely and talented artist. Love her sunny sensibility, encouraging nature and real expertise. The emphasis is on letting go and allowing yourself to really explore your possibilities in a fun and stress-free manner. So glad I sprang for this resource!
This is a nice book for beginners who would like to make bright flowered designs or collage for art journals or on a canvas. You create with your fingers, the edge of a credit card, and simple supplies with step-by-step instructions. Nothing fancy or expensive to buy in this book.
