Here is a story I have never heard before. I am shocked by all the many things the author tells of. I have only heard one side of the story before and it was obviously a distorted side. I am ashamed of the way I have swallowed "news" stories told in a slanted way. This book helped open my eyes to things I had been blind to.Praying for the peace of Jerusalem has taken on new meaning for me. I am reminded of how the Bible has been used to justify many atrocities such as the Crusades and slavery. I am thinking how much of we have failed to listen fully to the whole truth and teaching of God's word and Jesus' message to us. There is the recent trouble in Furgeson Missouri and all the hatred and violence it has stirred up. Love and peace, truth and righteousness, learning to practice what is taught in the Sermon on the Mount, seem to be the same answers for many situations and unrest in the world today.I think this book should be mandatory reading in all school's curriculum. I recommend it to everyone. Please read this book.

A very apt description of the area and problems. I have lived in several Mid East countries and was part of a U.S. government department that was providing food for the refugee camps, which did very little, due to the Palestine culture, infighting and corruption It is still hard to remember and describe the unbelievable conditions. I have friends on both sides and it is difficult to get either side to get past generations of culture, repeated stories and written history of atrocities, some true, some enhanced thru time. The hatred is so ingrained that it is almost impossible to change in any great numbers although does not mean any less of what the good religious peacemaker has accomplished. My own feelings was that it was was slightly tilted to the Palestinian side. I also have seen the holocaust death camps and I am afraid that there will be no lasting solution in at least my time

This is a book which fed my soul. I was challenged by this man's deep, abiding communion with the living Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth. The story of the injustices that Chacour and his village suffered, challenge the assumptions that we Westerners have accepted as true for such a long time.It is shocking that despite 2 Israeli Supreme Court decisions, and numerous inquiries, the villagers, who had lived there for centuries, have not been allowed to return to their village. Just google "Biram, Israel", and you'll see what I mean. The most recent reference is found in the newspaper: Hararetz: http://www.haaretz.com/opinion/.premium-1.545977.Nevertheless, Elias Chacour harbors no bitterness, and lives and preaches the Sermon on the Mount.

I love Chacour's self examination as he battles the opposition to his very existence. Humble reflections that bring us right back to the foot of the cross and and the example of the man from Galilee, love the. Lord you God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself. To be forgiven we must always first forgive.....Elias Chacour's example inspires me to search my heart for what is required of me....silence is not an option anymore. People of the cross must take a stand no matter what the cost. Thank you Elias Chacour, I would love to meet you someday in your beloved Galilee.

If learning about the plight of the Palestinians is of interest to you, this is very good book. It is written by a very learned Palestinian Christian priest. It covers the Zionist take over of his village in 1948, the wars & infitadas to date. Very interesting reading

This book, this story, is both heartwarming yet unsettling, uplifting yet eye-opening. It is well written and it is well told. I found myself running through the streets alongside 8-year-old Elias Chacour, a young Palestinian boy...climbing fig trees, listened for the telltale jingle of mother's necklace and gazed at the stars alight the rooftop of the house. The love of home, community and family is tangible within the book’s pages.Chacour tells the reader of his journey as he continues into adulthood and discerns God’s call amidst religious persecution of his family, his community and his way of life. He faces prejudice, torment and torture, loss of home and family and told he is “dirt”. Chacour shares his struggle to find understanding of the political arena and actions of the Israeli government, actions of outside governments, and the atrocities suffered under the actions of those who are his “brothers” within the context of his beliefs and where God is calling him to serve. Chacour is not only a man of conviction and faith, but a man of hope, a man looking to build bridges of peace. This book looks at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the lens of deep-rooted faith that one cannot glean from the media or sitting thousands of miles and oceans apart. This is a real-life recount that is a “must read” for sharing.

Blood Brothers, by Elias Chacour and David Hazard, tells the story of a young man’s struggle to understand the circumstances of his homeland’s war-torn life, and his journey to become a voice of peace amidst generations of bloodshed. As a young boy in post-WWII Palestine, Chacour’s Christian community was prepared to welcome as “blood brothers” those European Jews seeking settlement throughout Palestine. Yet, when the Zionist military poured in “purifying” the land of “dirty Palestinians,” the young Elias faced a new reality of conflict and terror that replaced a cross-religious and ethnic peace in Galilee.Raised to express radical forgiveness, and love for one’s enemy, Chacour would spend his life seeking to understand his neighbors. His journey describes a narrative that has largely been ignored amidst propaganda and misinformation. He unveils generations worth of controversy and reveals the true demon of the Middle Eastern conflicts: Militarism. Even as a victim of terrorism in his homeland, and prejudice abroad, Chacour teaches us to humanize “the other.” He aims to extend the only effective means for attaining peace in a place torn apart by so much violence. Love. The journey of Elias Chacour is powerful and compelling. Fueled with compassion, ignited by faith.
