The Michael Connelly books are consistently great. The reader is good. The stories well executed with no pretense. As a person doing long commutes, I switch back and forth between non-fiction and fiction. I can count on Harry Bosch to keep me awake and safe on the road!!
I always love Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch stories. Such a complex and interesting character. And I think of Len Cariou's voice as THE voice of Bosch. I have read all three of these books, but I always listen to the book later, also. Bosch has been my cross country and across town companion many times.My only complaint about this purchase was that a disc was missing. There are 23 hours of listening, so it takes a while to get through. I didn't catch the problem until it was too late; has a 30 policy for exchanges. I have never had this happen before, so I didn't count the discs right away. Lesson learned. I feel burned that I missed the second to last disc when things were getting exciting!
I have never read a Michael Connelly novel, but I love a good detective yarn. These stories are great, but I became so irritated by the narrator that I almost gave up listening! He seems to think that all cops, PI's and FBI agents need to sound like they've been gargling nails. So annoying! His characterisations of the characters were ghastly, and his intonation missed the mark constantly. At times, especially when the dialogue was a female character, he sounded like he was just learning to read a foreign language and was extremely stilted.Apart from that, the novels themselves are really good! In future, I will just avoid books read by Len Cariou
Great value for any Michael Connelly/Harry Bosch fan. The audio tapes compliment the books, rather than replaces them. But they are great if you do a lot of driving and your opportunities for reading are limited.
Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch Box Set receives an excellent narration by Len Cariou, stage and TV actor who brings to life three best-selling Bosch investigations: The Narrows, Echo Park and The Overlook. Any Bosch fan who wishes to enjoy his dramas in one set will find this a fine set of thrillers steeped in mystery, espionage, and murder.
He was so excited to get something that was 3 books so he can listen to one at a time. Sometimes he has a lull between big jobs and forgets where he left off.
This was such a fun set to listen to while commuting around Orange and LA Counties. Especially in LA since most of it takes place there. Great stories.
Harry Bosch is a true great character. I loved following him through his ups and downs in Michael Connelly's stories.
