Don't You Leave Me Here: My Life
Ebooks To Download

In 2013, Dr Feelgood founder, Blockheads member and musical legend Wilko Johnson was diagnosed with terminal cancer. With ten months to live, he decided to accept his imminent death and went on the road. His calm, philosophical response made him even more beloved and admired. And then the strangest thing happened: he didn't die. Don't You Leave Me Here is the story of his life in music, his life with cancer, and his life now - in the future he never thought he would see.

Since he has been a teacher it is not surprising that the book is well written. Wilko recounts his life before and after the feelgoods. The whole story of course culminates with his battle against the pancreatic tumor that was discovered and which was supposed to end his life. Wilko is able to recount this with wit and poignancy. First of course we get his life as a child and then as a student and teacher. We also learn that he traveled to India, all this before becoming the guitarist in dr feelgood. That band was a great influence on anyone into rock in the punk and post punk era. While they never really had an impact in the states, in Europe they were hugely influential. Unfortunately after his spilt he went on to make some not so good records (his voice is the main problem: even his excellent guitar playing could not hide that). However as a guitarist he is one of the greats, having defined a new way of playing the guitar altogether in an era of pompous solos. Also his writing is that o. A highly intelligent and funny man. In the feelgood movie he came across somewhat less brilliantly. It is however a quick read, I would had expected it to e a bit more detailed at times.

I am a fan of Wilko and have been for decades. Went to the Glasgow gig of his farewell tour and will admit to shedding a few tears. Well doesn't he go and survive, after a major operation. Whether or not you have Looking Back At Me, this is an essential purchase as it brings you bang up to date on the intriguing story of a guitar legend who is actually a shy sort of geezer. I laughed and I cried reading his life story. A wonderful read.Ray Smillie

Reads like listening to a man in the pub. A bit sad, quite funny, not too complicated or deep. Very 8 eight pints and a lot of crisps.

Fantastic memoir from Wilco!
