Bought this for a Christmas gift for my 5 year old granddaughter who was quite taken with the Nutcracker last month. She was in four performances for the first time as a mouse and she thoroughly enjoyed herself but I can tell she has aspirations to be Clara someday! After looking through the book, I thought it might be too old for her, but she loved it! She spent hours paging through it and begged her Mommy to read it to her at bedtime.
Such gorgeous photography and a back-stage look written by a professional dancer. This is the answer to Black Swan with none of the dark undertones. Perfect for aspiring dancers and just fans of grace and beauty.
Spectacular photography takes us behind the scenes through the eyes of 13 year old ballerina Fiona, who is on a heart pumping, adrenalin rushing journey to become the next Clara in the classic ballet, "The Nutcracker." From auditions to the night of the premiere we witness a young dancer stepping into a role for the first time. It is here backstage that we learn that it can be both a spirited as well as a serious place. Come along and see for yourself, backstage is where the magic begins!
This book was absolutely amazing. I loved it! I enjoyed how it was from Fiona's perspective, and it talked about the rehearsals and her first show. I recommend this book to everyone who dances ballet.
my daughter is 4 yrs old and LOVES the nutcracker. we got her his book because she has lots of versions of the story, but this is a telling of what it is like to be preparing to perform the ballet. we hope this will help our daughter be better informed about the work involved in ballet before we allow her to decide if she wants to take up dance. the photos are wonderful, and it is written as a story, so she loves it!
