Herb Brooks: The Inside Story Of A Hockey Mastermind
Ebooks To Download

The U. S. hockey team’s victory at the 1980 Olympics was a “Miracle on Ice”--a miracle largely brought about by Herb Brooks, the legendary coach who forged that invincible team. Famously antagonistic toward the press at Lake Placid, Brooks nonetheless turned to sportswriter John Gilbert after each game, giving his longtime friend and confidant what became the most comprehensive coverage of the ’80 team. This book is Gilbert’s memoir of Brooks. Neither strictly biography or tell-all exposé, Herb Brooks: The Inside Story of a Hockey Mastermind is the story of an extraordinary man as it emerged in the course of a remarkable friendship.

I thoroughly enjoyed and was considerably enlightened about Herb Brooks and his unique style of coaching and psychology; he used new techniques and his own individual style to groom a bunch of college kids to defeat the greatest of the worlds professional hockey team at the '80 olympics. He was very good; the book reflected this.

I was always a big fan of Herb's accomplishments, but not of the way I observed him interact with my broadcast partner, Bob Miller, years ago. Now I understand it better as part of Herb's rivalry with Badger Bob Johnson. Bob Miller had been the voice of the Badgers, and evidently was thought to be part of that camp, even though this happened 7 years after he had departed Madison for the career he still enjoys with the Los Angeles Kings. I am aware of other confrontations as well, particularly one attack on another broadcasting colleague of mine in a post-game rant, that were particularly distasteful. However, if you have read the biographies of Steven Jobs, you probably didn't walk away liking him, either.Gilbert's friendship with Brooks is the key to his insights, which are very strong, even down the philosophy of the x's and the o's. That understanding is what makes this book worthwhile!

I grew up in Minnesota, played hockey up through high school, coached and referreed in my adult years. I have always been a huge Gopher fan, even though I no longer live in Minnesota.I was fortunate enough to meet Herb a few times, and have great memories of the kind of person he was. He was one of those rare, gifted people, who just have this "aura" about them. My conversations with him left me feeling amazing afterwards. He saw something positive in every situation, and something good in everyone.I was saddened when he died. We lost an incredible man, and a true hero.

Look we all know about the Herbie Miracle on ice. Bu the author does a great job telling his background, some quiet insights before, and after the miracle game. Bought and loaded onto kindle. Great book. Her Brooks RIP American hockey misses you.

The book delves in to the stories behind the story. I was in the third grade when the Miracle on Ice happened. So I remember some things, but not a lot...This book (along with the movie "Miracle" of course) helps fill in the details. THE GREATEST TEAM UPSET IN HISTORY!!!

An excellent biography of the legendary coach's life and career. It covers not only the 1980 Olympic team where his legand grew but also his coaching career at the University of Minnesota and the NHL. As a fan of college hockey, especially during the late 70s and early 80s, I enjoyed the stories of the Minnesota Gopher hockey teams coached by Brooks. John Gilbert is a talented hockey writer and was a close friend of Brooks. Both of these are evident throughout the book. A must read for any hockey fan.

I am from Minnesota and appreciate this excellent bio of Herbie as we called him. The book is indeed an "inside story" and is well written. It shows how Herb really understood the psychology of champions and how to motivate them.

Herb Brooks Legend Lives on A classic. Book in excellent condition, delivery on time. no problems whatsover. If you have seen the movie, read the accouts. this is a must have. If you love hocket get this book.
