Corky Siegel has been a mainstay of American music for decades. This book, with companion CD, does a masterful job of capturing Siegel's perspective on discovering (or re-discovering) one's capacity for creativity in music. The book is particularly recommended for people relatively new to musical self-expression, especially those who might have thought they had no particular "talent" for it. Siegel shows how virtually anyone, armed with the appropriate mindset, can find a capability they never knew they had.
Although late to the game, I'm now a big big BIG Corky Siegel fan and if any of you have ever seen him perform, you know his passion is infectious. This book is primarily about how to use dynamics effectively in performance in order to express emotions. As a music educator, I would say this is all stuff I guess I knew, but this book has given me an entirely different perspective not only for myself, but for my students as well. It's not just for professionals -it's for EVERYONE. Highly recommended.
