Mozart's requiem was only partially finished at his untimely death in December 1791. His widow Constanza turned to Mozart's students to complete the work which had been commissioned by Count Walsegg in honor of his late wife. Joseph Eybler made the first attempt but returned the manuscript a short time later - still unfinished. Franz Xaver Sussmayr, another student completed the work in 1792. The work was first performed on January 2, 1793 in Vienna in Sussmayr's version, which remains the most widely performed and recorded completion despite disputes over the extent of Sussmayr's contribution.This new vocal score is a high-quality digitally enhanced reissue of the one prepared by Friedrich Brissler around 1880. It is the most widely known vocal piano reduction in use today. I was very impressed with this score. As a professional choral singer, I've seen 'em all... and there are far too many fuzzy, indistinct, crowded, tiny, etc. choral scores out there. This is a beautiful edition. The printing is crisp and clean, the spacing is good so that the lines don't run into one another, and the type is large enough that those of edging into the bifocal years shouldn't have many problems.Turns out I need the Maunder completion, not the Sussmayr one, but I'm going to hang onto this anyway. Pretty sure it'll get use at some point and I don't want to pass up such a gorgeous score.
I was unpleasantly surprised to find many errors in this edition, at least in the solo soprano line. Fortunately, I was able to insert corrections from another edition. I can't imagine how this happened!
easy to read and its great to have both measure numbers and rehearsal letters. I've found one note where the tenor note does not match the standard score but all the rest has been accurate.
Brand new condition. Easy to read. Measure numbers. Light weight. Love it!
One of my favorite pieces of music. It is great to have the score to study along with the music.
