In Bad Faith, two gripping story lines that could have been torn out of today's headlines meet at the intersection of religion and medical ethics. In the first, Butch battles to convict the parents of a deceased boy for failing to seek medical attention for their son, who believed, wrongly, that prayer was the answer for healing his rare but treatable brain disease. At the same time, Marlene investigates the charismatic demagogue Reverend McCord, who has an undeniable grasp on the parents. Meanwhile, a beautiful but deadly Russian incarcerated assassin, Nadya Malovo, works with Karp from behind bars to prevent a violent attack on New York City. But she harbors a secret vendetta against Karp for interfering in her past crimes, and can't be trusted.... This action-packed, edge-of-your-seat thriller will leave fans listening late into the night.

This was my "last chance" purchase for Tanenbaum's latest Butch Karp series. As with several of his recent past books there is entirely too much written about the terrorists & the latest planned attack. Of course this attack includes the Karp family, who are mentioned in the book but definitely not in a major part. Simply put I believe this was written by two authors, there is an occasional glimpse of the series I had loved & then much "filler" for the book.I miss the old Tanenbaum & will now treasure my past books by this author but will not purchase another of his books.

I've read an enjoyed some of the author's earlier Butch Karp books, which were decently written, well-plotted and clever. I think the early success of the series has gone to his head. This one is poorly writtten, absurdly contrived and altogether badly done. It's a waste of time to read, and an altogether total waste of money.

Religious bigotry leads to violence, hatred and terrorism, among other nasty behaviors. It is used by people with less complex motives -- greed, lust for power, and vengeance to name three. Butch Karp, New York Prosecutor, handles it all with the help of his family and friends. Well plotted, this story keeps the reader engrossed, foregoing sleep, even, to find out what happens next. With a curious twist, violence and vengeance play on the side of the good guys as well as the bad. Butch and perhaps New York are saved in part because of a religious crazy man who helps thwart the other religious crazies. The ambiguity is probably part of real life, although exaggerated beyond what most of us live with. All in all, a good read with much to think about for weeks, maybe months, after setting the book down at the final chapter.

I am waiting for all the novelists who jumped on the Islamic terrorist bandwagon to get back to their roots. Listening to a novel as I am makes you appreciate tightly plotted well written novels and this is not one of them. Way too much information about the "bad, bad" terrorists and not enough on the legal stuff. The plot about faith healers would have made a good novel in itself but it becomes a side plot. I agree with the reviewer who said that it seems to be a "franchise" book where the author oks the outline and others do the writing. C'mon Mr. Tanenbaum get back to your roots and those fine first books with tight plots and believable characters. Spin off the terrorism stuff with the kids.

I haved watched Butch and his family grow and become more interesting over the last bunch of years since Tannenbaum started writing these novels. Sad to say that they've become pretty formulaic. This one is ok but not nearly up to the standards he set through the early years.

As always Tanenbaum hooks the reader from the first page. This is a fast paced page turner for all! If you have read earlier "Butch Karp" novels, you can appreciate all of the underworld character but if not, you will not be left out. The ending is fantastic & I can hardly wait for the next one!

This was my last try with the Butch Karp series. I think the author has become bored with his characters, which is a shame as they were interesting, exciting and very readable. This book was totally uninteresting and I put it down at half way. maybe the author needs to develop a new character, and get some excitement back into his writing.

Not as strange as some of the stories. Would like less of the underground characters and more of Butch Karp and family. The twins were barely referred to in the story, for instance. Entertaining!
