I listened to the audiobook of After the Funeral. It is a tightly wound suspenseful murder who-done-it as good as any of the longer Poirot tales. My favorite actor the late Frank Thorton (From Are You Being Served, note that only Mr. Rumbold is still with us) plays the attorney who needs to understand why his client's family are dropping like flies, suffering accidents, and behaving like cads even by Agatha Christie's Edwardian upper-class standards. We start with a post-funeral luncheon where a widowed aunt exclaims that the deceased patriarch must have been murdered. We would write that off to stress and lunacy except that the poor woman turns up dead the next day. The family attorney brings in Poirot, who decides to investigate this one in a poor undercover disguise. Working with the police and the attorney, Poirot investigates the rest of the family including those who gained from the estate, those who wish they had, and those who kept other secrets from their spouses. In the end the crime is solved, of course we need to bring all the involved parties together in the great hall of the great house to resolve the thing. While the murderer turns out to be someone that we should always suspect, the thing was not clear to me until the end. One learns everyday that women will have strange and unexpected motives.
VERY GOOD, VERY WELL ACTED. ENJOYABLE TO LISTEN TO. GREAT ON TRIPS WHEN MY HUSBAND WANTS TO LISTEN TO THE RADIO.
All that I expected. I like the multiple voice dramatization. It adds a dimension that isn't as effective when one person is reading in different voices.
