When discussing Israel and its long history of conflict, the emotions are so charged and, for many, the stakes are so high that even engaging in a simple conversation about the subject can be like running a marathon of endlessly heated ideas and never-ending historical perspectives. In telling this story, I am not interested in taking any side. I just want to tell the story of how one small nation and a small group of people have had the tenacity and courage to defy the odds and preserve an ancient culture that has become the epicenter of not just conflict but religion, philosophy and human society as a whole. Because Israel has contributed so much to all of us; what was once just an Israeli culture has grown to become what is, by and large, an inherited world culture. As the scriptures promised to Abraham, "I will make your descendants countless as the dust of the earth; if anyone could count the dust upon the ground, then he could count your descendants;" (Genesis 13:16) I believe that this scripture does hold true.  Because the whole earth has indeed benefited and been greatly influenced from the powerful traditions and thought that have reverberated from Israel throughout history. Since the days of the Covenant that was made with Abraham in the desert, we have all become great inheritors of this tradition.  With an inheritance that is as countless as the dust of the earth. Many great and wonderful things have come out of Israel and its people and the world would just not be the same without it.

This is so comprehensive and so brilliant, this book is very informative and well written, an interesting book. Great reference and readable history, a great book for beginners who want to know the history about Israel. This book helped me make sense of a lot of Old Testament history and the cultures surrounding the biblical narrative. Highly recommend to those interested about Israel or wanting to better understand the Old Testament prophets in general.
I was amazed by reading how such a small group of people and a small nation preserved an ancient culture. This book helped me to understand the history of Israel, Jews,and Judaism. It was an informative read. If you love to learn about Israel, then this is one of the good books.

It's a book that open one's eyes to the story of the Israelites. I, honestly, didn't have any clue what their race had went through and is going through. I just know that there are conflicts going on that involves them and religion. Reading this book helped me have a better understanding of what they're fighting for and their history. It's a good-to-know kind of book and it was indeed a good read.

This was a difficult book for me to read or review as it contains material seldom supplied in the usual sources available to me. However, I think it very important to reconsider the direction of a country so necessary for the survival of Jews, and a country that calls itself the only democracy in the Middle East.I read many facts in this book that I was totally unaware of, yet somewhere deep inside I had always questioned the total animosity existing in this tiny country. I felt the tension when visiting several times, despite loving the area and what I thought it stood for.It is not an easy read, and I wanted to go back over a number of sections in order to better understand what had taken place earlier, but I'm not that familiar yet with finding things on my Kindle, so eventually, I may re-read this book in regular book form!I strongly recommend reading this book, written by the grandson of one of the early founders, in order to see and try to understand that in order to remain a viable country, perhaps it is important to open more dialogue, both within the Israeli community and if at all possible, with the surrounding countries. Or I worry this miracle country will no longer be "My Promised Land"!
There will come a day when the world will turn its back on Israel, this book reinforces those ideas
