This collection includes traditional favorites, with some interesting twists. However, there is definitely no "advanced" material here. In fact, many pieces would qualify for early intermediate. While I did enjoy some of the material, quite a number of pieces were too easy to add anything, stylistically or harmonically, to my holiday piano books collection. I would suggest this book to an early- to mid-intermediate player without an extensive Christmas book collection, or to someone looking for a Christmas compendium somewhat in the vein of "A Solo A Sunday".
As a piano teacher, I love this book for two reasons. 1) The arrangements are wonderful and so much fun for me to sit down and play. and 2) they are just challenging enough to keep my more advanced/late intermediate students working, but prepared in time for Christmas.
This is a great arrangement book. Most songs can be played by an intermediate pianist if they practice like they should. And any advanced pianist can sight-read this thing, but not so easily that it's boring. It keeps you quick on the draw with some witty tempos, key changes, and several sharps or flats on some songs. It's lyrical and lovely, but there are some more staccato, lively pieces as well.Some of the songs inside include classics like Angels we have heard on high, what child is this, away in a manger, Good Christian men rejoice, and Jolly Old St. Nicholas. Some are the well-known classics of a more global Christmas repertoire that Americans who really love Christmas still remember hearing through childhood, like Polish Lullaby and Il est ne. There are many arrangements of the typical favorites, but if you need an arrangement of a carol or song that isn't as "overdone," you will find it in this book, for example, Coventry Carol, How Great Our Joy, Bells are Ringing.Lovely, lovely book. Well done. So much fun to play. I recommend it!
I love the arrangements in this book! When I received it, I sat down and played straight through the book with minor difficulty, but immense pleasure. If you are a late intermediate player, you will play the majority of these pieces in very little time. An early intermediate player will need more practice, but they are attainable. What I loved was the freshness of the arrangements. I have over 150 Christmas piano books, but I will be using this one this year for sure!!
Really beautiful arrangements for an intermediate level piano player. Especially love the arrangement of "Joy to the World", which switches the melody back and forth between treble and bass clef. Love this book!
So far, this is my favorite collection of instrumental Christmas pieces. They are a bit challenging, an interesting variation on the traditional arrangements, pleasant to listen to, and just plain fun to play (well, for those who play at the intermediate level that is). They were well received at Christmas service, and I've continued to play from this book about once a week since New Year's. (It's now late February.)Very enjoyable.
Nice collection of Christmas music for my daughter to play during the Christmas season. My daughter has been taking piano lessons some she was six years old. She's fifteen now and I wanted some nice arrangements of familiar songs that she could use to practice her sight reading (without feeling like it was practice) , as well as tunes that the rest of the family could enjoy. This seems to fit the bill.
I love this book - the pieces are beautiful and so useful during preludes, offerings, and postludes. I would recommend this book.
