Ebooks To Download

Award-winning and internationally renowned Washington Post and Time magazine photographer David Burnett, delivers an intimate and previously unpublished look at Bob Marley's personal life in Jamaica, music, and Exodus tour at the height of his career and shortly before his tragic death. On assignment in Jamaica for Time magazine, photo-journalist David Burnett first photographed Bob Marley in 1976 and continued to document the Reggae legend on tour throughout Europe during the spring of 1977. Burnett's vision coupled with Marley's larger-than-life charisma resulted in an amazing collection of previously unseen images witnessed for the first time in Soul Rebel: An Intimate Portrait of Bob Marley in Jamaica and Beyond. Of the more than 200 images published here, only a handful were ever used for the Time article. While focusing on Marley, Burnett's work also canvassed a broad array of burgeoning Reggae talents in Marley's native Jamaica, including portraits of Peter Tosh, Lee Scratch Perry, Burning Spear, and Ras Michael. Compelling and incomparably candid, Soul Rebel honors the anniversary of Marley's birth with a testament to the legacy of a legend. For any Reggae lover or music history buff, Soul Rebel offers a matchless glimpse into Marley's life shortly before his tragic death in 1981.

In a time before publicist and stylists, when light was natural and images found (rather than created), photojournalist David Burnett captured moments that define a musical legend. Doubtful these images could be made today of the latest pop wunderkind, let alone someone of the stature of Bob Marley. My daughter came home with a t-shirt of the man, then wanted to know who this Bob Marley was (kids today, right?)... this is the book I gave her.Classic photojournalism at it's best.

Many of he photos are beautiful portraits, verging on haunting, of Marley at the peak of his powers. It is a bit unfortunate that this work is so narrowly focused on a specific tour. Marley's life and untimely death are truly the stuff of legend. Soul Rebel is a brilliant glimpse of a sliver of Marley's too-short life.

A pure delight! This beautifully designed and printed book contains the kind of extraordinary photographs of reggae master Bob Marley the world has come to expect from award-winning photojournalist David Burnett, almost all of which are previously unpublished. But it is not just a picture book. Burnett spent time with Marley at Marley's home in Jamaica, and traveled with Marley and the Wailers on their famous "Exodus" European tour. He writes about them with the insight that perhaps comes from Burnett's rare access to Marley's private life few journalists were granted, combined with Burnett's rare gifts of observation and expression.

Awsome book in itself, but the quality is like HD! Big pictures that are well placed throughout the book. Nice binding and hardback. Recieved in a reasonable amount of time even during the holidays. Must have for any Bob Marley fan

The pictures are gorgeous and illuminate Bob Marley's spirit and music. You just have to look these while listening to his songs to really "hear" them. I strongly recommend this one--just gorgeous.

I've been a huge fan of Bob Marley for years. This is another one (like "Whole Lotta Led Zeppellin") that received great reviews that it did not deserve. Pages and pages of photographs at the same shoot and absolutely no substantial information about this wonderful musician. "Catch A Fire" is still the best I've read but I would appreciate any suggestions from those who have read other bios about him.

The natural light Burnett used in the series of pictures of Marley at his home in Jamaica has the effect of making a man--who even decades later is considered a musical legend--completely down to earth and human."I think that rarely do you find journalists as sharp-eyed as photographers," said Burnett in an interview about his craft. "We are paid to look, and look around, we do. We notice little things that sometimes become very telling in a story."You see these little details in the photos in Soul Rebel. The light in Marley's eyes, the lines in the skin of his hands, the lines of his face in his introspective profile.[...]

I have always been amazed why we have not seen books before now by David Burnett. Although shy and introverted, this award winning snapper shoulduse this splendid book, with Burnett's well composed text, as a spring-board for more such tomes. I have followed Burnett's career for yearsand while most of his pictures were obviously taken with an Instamatic, it is his unique composition that makes this a "must have" to add to yourphotojournalism library. Also important, it gives hope to all amateurs that we too can make it in the BIG TIME, with a simple "point and snap." Of course, the MAJOR difference is DB has "the eye" and we don't. BUY IT!
