The book is a collection of essays from various writers on hip-hop. The reader gets the benefit of perspectives from musicians, scholars, writers, and the "average" person. It is a good resource for fans of hip-hop as well as teachers, professors, scholars, etc. One of the best benefits of this book is that each chapter has a series of questions to focus the reader on key ideas of the essays and discussions. The editors also present ideas and aspects that need further research. Some articles may be a bit dated but still useful.
Using this book for English 101 has been an amazing journey, and reintroduction to school, for this old broad! Well written, and highly recommended for anyone interested in hip hop music!
