So, like many others, I read the first book and thought it was pretty good, and seeing the higher overall rating, I went ahead and bought the second. I immediately added on the Audible 'whisper sync' for it, as I listen to books on my walk to and from class (so about an hour each day). Normally, I love listening to books, as it draws you in, and makes my walk go by really quickly. As a result, I can forgive quite a bit, since it's largely to fill in this walking time in an enjoyable fashion. However...Never have I been so fed up with a book! The first fifth of the book I was okay with, the exposition was a bit excessive (and could have been handled better, as it came across a bit condescending to the reader), but I was willing to look past that. After that, it became increasing infuriating (I'll get to why in a moment), and I found myself rolling my eyes, and muttering 'ugh' and sighing to myself, as the narrator droned on (doing the best with what he was given). I probably looked crazy.. I ended up turning it off halfway through, and have since switched to re-listening to the Silo series (fantastic by the way), as I'd rather repeat a good book, than listen to this one. Which is saying a LOT since I even allowed myself to zone out during this book, and even that couldn't make it tolerable.Okay, now for reasons I can think of at the moment..**The dialogue.. oh god, the dialogue. Enough said.**The characters are either ridiculously dense, or incredibly clever. It's as though they were given lists of prerequisite skills/knowledge before embarking on this journey--in that each seems to know exactly the right information on cue as needed.
