She Won't Be Silenced: A True Story
Ebooks To Download

For the past twenty-one years, Lisa has put the trauma of her father’s brutal murder behind her and has built a happy, stable life for herself. Suddenly, all that is in jeopardy when she receives a letter from the Parole Board of Canada. Despite a sentence of Life Imprisonment, Lisa learns that her father’s killer is able to begin the parole process well before he reaches the twenty-five-year eligibility mark. She needs to prepare a Victim Impact Statement and brace herself to see her father’s killer again. Lisa is shocked when a lawyer at the Panel Hearing introduces her by her full name, not once, but twice in front of the man who mercilessly killed her father. She realizes that she now faces an even greater challenge: the assertion of her rights versus the rights of the man who axed her father to death. And, with ever-present obstacles from the Parole Board in her path, she knows that she won’t just need a strong resolve to face her father’s killer, but an equally strong one to fight the Parole Board. Lisa Freeman’s moving and unforgettable story tells how she navigated through the daunting policies of the Parole Board of Canada and tells of a promise between sisters and the fulfillment of a last wish. With ingenuity and tenacity, she is steadfast in her determination to make sure that the Parole Board not only hears the voice of the man who killed her father, but that her father’s voice, through hers, will be heard even louder. Author Lisa Freeman does an outstanding job writing about the horrific senseless murder of her father, the trial and the aftermath that followed when the "life in prison" sentence turned out not to be "life in prison" after all. It was very interesting to read the details of Ms. Freeman's ordeal as she took on the parole board of Canada to get changes made to protect the victims' families from the guilty parties. Ms. Freeman's is still working on getting changes made for the better and there is no doubt in my mind that she will be successful. I highly recommend this very sad but very interesting book. Great job Ms. Freeman!

This is a well-written story, written from the heart. The writing captivates the reader as we follow the story of the murder of the author's father and the many years following. This is true crime and also addresses current issues with the justice system in Canada. Even though the story is sad, this was an enjoyable book to read.

This was a very heartbreaking story about the brutal murder of the author's father and the aftermath of the family's quest for justice. It is told from the author's point of view. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true crime.

A powerful well written book, based on actual accounts and facts by the author Lisa Freeman. What truly made this book a five star was the way she fought non-stop to bring attention to the policies and procedures the parole board had in play., The brutal murder of her father left a very deep emotional scar, on herself and her family. I recommend this book

A very informative story about the rights of victims and offenders, and the shocking information about judicial system and the Parole Board. Although a life was wrongly taken away, Lisa Freeman made sure that the offenders right s to various types of parole and their sentencing be modified to "Life" means "LIFE" Offenders who are given a life sentence are still eligible for parole at a specified time normally 25 years. In this case the offender was able to request a escorted temporary absence for the purpose of personal development. This meant that the offender would be allowed to leave the institution on more than one occasion for a maximum of four hours a week. The offender was granted 40 hours a month to do community service and roam free in the area. So many rights they have, but what about the victims?. How is this I often wonder and hoe long has this been allowed? Please sign the petition at the end of the book to ensure that changes will be done. The petition is open for signature until September 27, 2016. This is your chance to make a difference!!!Excellent Book Lisa Freeman, continue your fight "Victims Rights Do Matter"!!!
