this publication of sam henry's 'songs of the people' is affordable and basically identical to any of the previous hardcover incarnations that are only owned by college libraries and rich people.as for the content, this book is a historically significant collection of traditional irish songs sung in english and taken from northern singers. it was the source for many brilliant singers of the folk revival, namely paul brady.highly recommended for any folksingers or those interested in traditional songs.
This book is a must have for anyone who enjoys what I call "root" music. I bought this specifically for bagpipe practice and I found it quite enjoyable and simple for one who is just beginning to learn the pipes. Music aside, I found that just reading the lyrics was enjoyable as well. Whether you are a musician or someone who likes simple poetry this book is a must for your library.
