This is a great introduction into Spanish Art Song. After Schirmer's "First Book" series, which also has a decent assortment of Spanish music, I recommend picking up this piece. Not as full as the French Song & Lieder Anthologys, but very well put together. The pieces allow for a wonderful variety of song ranging from very danceable to meloncholy.
A must for any singer or accompanist. I bought it for de Falla's Seven Popular Songs in a high key (which could be a bit higher. Some essential material is included (like de Falla, for traditionalists like me)and some unknown pieces (for the risk-taking singer)are included as well. Great price.
This is yet another exceptional anthology in a long line of great publications from Hal Leonard. Available in both high and low voice, the selections contained run the gamut from traditional, well-known song cycles to exiciting little-known works. Translations, IPA transcriptions, historical background - it is all here to help you and your students explore the wonderful repertoire of spanish art song.
I use this anthology all the time in my voice teaching. Wonderful selection of composers.....highly recommended for all levels of singers looking for Spanish art songs.
