Ebooks To Download

The first book on the career of actress Ann Blyth. Multitalented and remarkably versatile, Blyth began on radio as a child, appeared on Broadway at the age of twelve in Lillian Hellman's WATCH ON THE RHINE, and enjoyed a long and diverse career in films, theatre, television, and concerts. A sensitive dramatic actress, the youngest at the time to be nominated for her role in MILDRED PIERCE (1945), she also displayed a gift for comedy, and was especially endeared to fans for her expressive and exquisite lyric soprano, which was showcased in many film and stage musicals. Still a popular guest at film festivals, lovely Ms. Blyth remains a treasure of the Hollywood's golden age. This exploration of her career covers in detail her films, television, theatre, and radio performances from a wealth of sources and is illustrated with 275 photographs, some rarely or never before seen.

Marvelous read about Ann Blyth, an actress I am always intrigued by but know very little about. I appreciate the author's enthusiasm for the films and the extra amount of detailed analysis on the major titles. It has been a job of work compiling this information from many sources. The material is highly readable and when you come to the end you realize this has been a career that justifies this level of presentation. I had it as an e-book whose only drawback was an inability to enlarge the many excellent photographs. Highly recommended.

Clearly Miss Lynch researched every possible detail regarding Ann Blyth and didn't eliminate much. At 350 pages of text most of the chapters discuss a film Ann acted in. A couple including chapter 19 entitled "Our Very Own" describes every detail of the film lasting fourteen pages which caused me to lose interest because I felt it was information overload. A slow read that takes extra time.

Jacqueline T. Lynch's "Ann Blyth: Actress, Singer, Star" is the book Ann Blyth fans have been waiting for. If you are a fan you will appreciate Ms. Lynch's research and insights, along with the many photographs. If you are not already a fan of Ms. Blyth, this book will surely turn you into one. If you are at all interested in the entertainment business in the 20th century - from radio to television, from stage to screen, from touring companies to night clubs you will find much to fascinate you. A must-have for the entertainment section of your bookshelf.

A wonderfully comprehensive biography of one of Hollywood's overlooked stars of the 1950s.
