Stephen Colbert: Beyond Truthiness
Ebooks To Download

Stephen Colbert is far more than a comedian and improv genius. As head of his fanciful Colbert Nation, the quick-witted host of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report has delighted fans with his wit, audacity, and innovative uses of language and the media. In this biography, award-winning journalist Bruce Watson, author of Jon Stewart: Beyond the Moments of Zen, charts Colbert's rise from boyhood tragedy to "greatest living cultural/media critic."

I enjoyed Bruce Watson's e-bio of Jon Stewart so I checked this out. Not as long, not as detailed, but Colbert's life is more interesting than Stewart's and there's more personal detail here than in the Stewart book. This funny guy (Colbert) worked his ass off to get where he is and this bio gives the full stroy. Also interesting are Watson's take on improv comedy vs sketch comedy, and the strong contrast between Colbert, the leader of Colbert Nation, and Stephen Colbert, the father, philanthropist, and all-around good guy. Watson deserves a "Colbert bump" for his efforts.

One thing you get from reading this biography is that despite his on air persona Stephen Colbert is both a humble and generous. He is one of the highest paid entertainers yet he gives millions to worthy causes. That is why I respect him both as a comedian and human being.

Bruce Watson's witty book is a must read for all Colbert fans. It's as entertaining as the TV show and it gives you a great behind the scenes look at one of the funniest men on television and how he got that way.

I have been a Colbert fan for several years and love being part of Colbert Nation, so I already knew much of what was in this biography. However, I loved having his time on the Colbert Report being put into the perspective of his life leading up to the Report. I also appreciated the inclusion of some of his sketches that made me laugh all over again. At 68, I am hardly his target audience, but his satire and the younger generation's understanding and appreciation of it give me hope for the future. Stewart/Colbert in 2016!

Stephen Colbert is all over the place these days which drew me to this book. Having read it, I feel I know who his is and what he stands for much better than when he's "on" in TV land. His politics are not as radical as his TV personality might imply, and I think I'm glad there are Stephen Colbert's entertaining us with our ridiculous political world. Young generations fall all over themselves taking in his explosive rhetoric where they can't be bothered to listen to actual news. Better Colbert than some of others.

Reading this book felt like interviewing a close friend of Stephen Colbert. I learn some details of his life that I was curious about as well as an overview of the person compared to the TV character. This book reads easily, andI highly recommend it.

Watson's book is well written and an entertaining read. While it hits the highlights of the timeline of Stephen Colbert's life, it disappoints with its lack of depth and/or insight into this very interesting 21st century man.

This is an ok biography about an amazing man. It starts with a jolt as Watson recounts Colbert's public take down of President George W. Bush at the White House Press Conference dinner. After that, however, it's more a telling of Colbert's life. I would have liked to be shown, rather than told. I would have loved more Colbert's quips and input into this biography, rather than just the author recounting a chronological timeline. I did learn interesting things - I didn't know how devote a Catholic Colbert is, or that he was the youngest child in his family. If you're looking for a peek at a Star's secret life, this is it. If you're wanting real meat, find something else to chew on.
