I expected this book to be very dry and to the point, focusing on the nuts and bolts of finance and little else. I was surprised once I started reading that it was actually written well, and with a sense of humor. Sure, some of it is the nerdy accountant joke type stuff, but there are also some witty and sarcastic quips too - it makes you feel like a real, normal person wrote the text rather than some robot professor. That said, it also offers a comprehensive - if somewhat shallow - overview of financial management and analytic techniques. You'll learn about financial statements, forecasting, financing instruments, and evaluation of projects and firms. I think it is very helpful to read this if you have an interest in business, but not a strong background - definitely good for any future managers. It won't give you a super in depth view of everything a CFO might need to know and if you're really into corporate finance you'll likely have to look elsewhere pretty soon. Financial Management: Theory & Practice is a more in-depth option for those interested, though it doesn't have the same casual element.
It's a very concise to the point book for people with some corp finance background but want to refresh or simply willing to recall some key concepts. Honestly, I've read just 3 to 4 corp finance relevant publications, and this is the only one I strongly recommended. Well, also worth to point out is - if you don't have any knowledge about corp finance, skip it.
This book is really good I especially recommend it because of the excel problems that it has they include information about real companies and if you do the problems they sum of most of the chapter.
This is a great book which explains financial management in a very understandable way. Everybody who wants to learn finance should have this book!
I was shocked to see the produce I received was different from what was shown on .com. The cover photo used in the listing is for the recent edition of the book. However, the book sent to me was an older edition. I definitely will not buy 'used' or 'previously owned' products anymore from . Buyer beware. Oh well. I will still read the book and enjoy it, albeit not so much...
This is easily one of the most practical books for adult learners taking finance. It puts most emphasis on application versus theory and it well-suited as a book for MBA students.
book is extremely vague and doesn't explain content well. unless you already have a strong background in finances, then you'll have a hard time following the book. usually there is a page dedicated to a topic, and then there is an equation or formula, but no explanation or helpful content.
I recommend this text because my MBA students understand the way the economic concepts are presented. The text is written in their language.
