If you have read any of the other books by Chris Stewart, this one is just as good. He has a very witty and descriptive style. My husband and I have both spent time in Spain and we love reading about this British ex-pat's adventures living in Spain. If you're looking for some entertaining non fiction, this could be for you.
Good read like the other two, here this one is a little more reflective and shows a more established Chris and growing up. Therefere a different perspective on his life in Spain. A stage of life perspectibe. A good read and well written.
I started with his 1st book "Three ways to capsize a boat". I haven't been able to stop -- He is hilarious and he has a very unique way of describing people and events. I think his books can be read in any order but to get the true feel for the story of his life it really helps to read them in sequence. You wont be disappointed.
Having had a break of a couple of years between the first two books it was great to go back to El Valero for a visit and especially to read about the experience in Tunisia. Thank you for continuing to expand my cultural understanding of other peoples and the use of my native English language. You are a veritable Stephen Fry. Your story telling brings with it the urgent message of personal eco responsibility wrapped in delightful humour. Trust you survive the economic downturn in Spain with self-sufficiency.
After reading the other two books by Chris Stewart I was looking forward to this book.It was like going back to visit friends.Just more of his adventures in very rural Spain. Probably best read after the other two.Only fault it didn't seem long enough, didn't want to finish it.
I don't know why it took me so long to get round to reading the Almond Blossom Appreciation Society - in my view, this is the best book in the series. As a writer who lives a scant hour away from Chris Stewart's place in Las Alpujarras, I love the way he describes the society in which we live. His stories are very true to life and are so well-written it is easy to become lost in these beautiful mountains until you've somehow read the whole book in one go. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in upping sticks and relocating in this area.
Have read previous 2 books in the series and really enjoyed them all. This one might be the best. Many adventuresand laughing out loud moments. I like the way this guy doesn't take himself too seriously and laughs at himself, although on a couple occasions he seemed to be getting a tad grumpy as he got older. Oh well,me too!
Really enjoyed this book. Being a lover of Spain I was motivated to read the first book 'Driving Over Lemons' and then to continue with Stewart's second and third in the series. Loved his writing style and entertaining way with words. Captivated with his characters and their shared enjoyment of a way of life that is both enriching and challenging. Disappointed there wasn't another book in the series.
