Being that the main character is a student from the United States who is experiencing Spain for the first time, the listener will easily identify with the difficulties and situations the character experiences. The verbs ser, estar, and other uses of tener will all be combined in subtle ways that provide excellent opportunities to review their differences in different contexts. Present-tense regular verbs, stem-change verbs, reflexive verbs, and vocabulary related to common objectives are incorporated in this first book. Para aquellos profesores que buscamos motivar a los alumnos en el aprendizaje del idioma Español , este librito es una ayuda maravillosa! ¿Por qué? Entre otros aciertos, por la redacción fluída y ligera de la historia que presenta. Sólo es comenzar su lectura y uno se engancha de inmediato. El vocabulario es sencillo pero suficiente para un nivel inicial. La idea de que sea el estudiante quien elabore su propio glosario, y el recurso del audio son también puntos a favor. Lo recomiendo ampliamente!
What an excellent and refreshing way for students of all ages to advance in their Spanish-learning journey! I have been looking for books for my beginner, intermediate and advanced students to improve their vocabulary while giving them confidence that they can understand most of what is going on. And, I found it! I just finished the book and it left me wanting to know what happens next in Jenna's adventure. Great story-telling adapted for language learners. Highly recommended.
¡Buen camino! is an excellent resource for students and educators alike. It seems that nearly any beginner/intermediate Spanish student would benefit greatly from reading this book! The option of listening to the audio while reading is especially helpful for beginner students who are striving to improve pronunciation and fluency. The author obviously has a wealth of experience teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language and has included grammar and vocabulary that will compliment pretty much any elementary/intermediate Spanish textbook.
Many others have given reviews of this book so I'll just add a few comments primarily for Spanish teachers.The audio that goes with the book is decent but you can occasionally hear background noises. The photos are a really nice touch in the story.The chapters are high in cultural content. Chapter 1 covers packing the backpack for the Camino. Chapter 2 explains the use of military time in Spain and lodging on the Camino. Chapter 3 includes some of the regional differences in Spanish, like zumo or jugo and introduces the shell as a symbol for the Camino. Chapter 5 introduces arrows are signs on the trail. Chapter 6 deals with some Spanish foods and drinking habits. The book ends at Chapter 10. There are comprehension questions at the end along with a glossary.The second book starts in the middle of the story and there are plans for a third book.Jenna doesn't know the word quizas and thinks Julian says "kick a**." There's no violence, sex, drugs, or horoscopes.
¡Buen camino! es un recurso perfecto para estudiantes de español de cualquier nivel, en especial para los niveles principiante e intermedio. En mi opinión, la historia engancha al lector nada más empezar ya que podría ser perfectamente una historia real y además está contada en primera persona. El contenido cultural es uno de los grandes puntos a favor del libro ya que el personaje principal se aventura a descubrir la magia del famoso "Camino de Santiago". He usado el libro en algunas de mis clases y mis estudiantes están encantados; el hecho de poder escuchar la historia mientras leen les encanta. El vocabulario es sencillo y cubre la mayoría de temas que se estudian en los primeros niveles, y las actividades de comprensión que hay al final del libro son muy últiles. Tanto si eres estudiante de español como si eres profesor, ¡te aconsejo de verdad que eches un vistazo a este libro!
Atiende al objetivo práctico en la enseñanza básica del Español muy atinadamente, no sólo en el aspecto gramatical (repaso de los verbos ser y estar, vocabulario, etc.) sino por la redacción amena y ligera de la historia que motiva y despierta el interés desde las primeras líneas hasta el final. Para el estudiante que se adentra en el aprendizaje de una nueva lengua, saberse capaz de comprender y disfrutar lo que lee es de suma importancia; seguramente le impulsará a continuar con más ánimo. Un valor agragado se da con el acceso al audio. Sin duda la autora de esta pequeña gran herramienta, deja de manifiesto su experiencia en las aulas y su anhelo de compartir con otros docentes un recurso invaluble en su quehacer cotidiano.
I read Buen Camino in anticipation of incorporating it in the elementary Spanish classes that I teach. The text is great practice of basic vocabulary and language structures. The author does a wonderful job of introducing new vocabulary and variations and the story provides a personal introduction to the cultural experience of El Camino. I look forward to more readers from this author and hope to incorporate this one in my classes.
Buen Camino es una excelente opción para personas que están aprendiendo español. Utiliza un lenguaje sencillo y ofrece anécdotas amenas que despertarán el interés y curiosidad de todo lector. Un gran beneficio para los estudiantes al usarlo es la opción del audio que viene incorporada al libro y que es fácilmente accesible online. El relato del viaje a España y todas las vivencias del personaje principal hace aún más amena la lectura.
