I ordered John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano, books 1st Grade to 3rd grade as I had used these books as a child and had not touched a piano in 30 years. They were exactly as I remembered them. They arrived new, in perfect condition and easy to read. I recommend the series for anyone learning or "trying to learn" the piano again.
Taught myself First Grade course and now moving onto Second Grade course. Good method book and I am an older person learning to play piano.
The JohnThompson series is an OLD piano series which many piano teachers may have grown up on. It is still one of the best for presenting all areas of music to a student. It incorporates music history, music appreciation, theory, ear training, note recognition and application etc. at a steadily increasing degree of difficulty. Some will consider it more difficult than newer piano teaching methods, but students with strong incentive and a gifted teacher wil advance remarkably quickly with this series. The books are still designed as they were years ago and therefore easy to pick out of a stack of music; red covers with grade levels prominently displayed. Even the beginning books expose students to the melodies of the classics!
John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano is the best, because it clearly imparts the material, which a student needs to know for now and for the rest of his life. Also, the songs have more substance, many being parts of greater musical compositions.
I teach Piano and find the John Thompson program to be excellent for development of Musicianship...Once a Student finishes an elementary beginner book I put them in the Grade 1 Book of the Thompson Series, and they are off on an exciting Musical journey! I highly recommend it!
It arrived in excellent condition, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I will explain why when I rate John Thompson's Book One. I once had the same three John Thompson books that I have recently ordered from you, but that was about 65 years ago. When Dad sold the piano, my music went with it. He forgot to save it for me. My husband bought a Yamaha digital keyboard for a Christmas surprise, so now....at 81....I am learning to read and play music again.
Great tool. A little too fast paced for my 8 year old but I am using another practice book to cover some of the basics.
All of these Thompsons books are great. They have a lot of finger numbering help and the songs sound like the student is really accomplishing something. I use it as a second book to my Alfred's All In One.
