Both of my boys are music lovers. Since they both play different instruments, I encourage them to create their own songs as well. I grabbed this book with the hopes that this could help me understand what my kids are doing when I think they are scribbling on paper. This book teaches all the steps from the creative process to the polishing of the song. As well as everything in between.
This book was well thought out and contains many tips on how to write songs.This book teaches the basics for a beginner like me and makes it looks easier than I ever thought. This book is invaluable because it gives the views of very diverse writers. Amazingly, many of them approach songwriting in a similar manner. I recommend "Song" highly for aspiring or even accomplished songwriters. Recommend this book to everyone.
This book inevitably gives me some nuts and bolts way to look at my song differently and get over the hump to a more creative solution. The book covers pretty much every aspect of songwriting, from point-of-view and rhyming to prosody (the idea of all parts coming together to make a satisfying whole). It's a must read if you want to get to the next level.
Compared to writing a short story, I find song writing a little bit more difficult. However, after reading this book, I'm up to the challenge to compose a song. I might need to collaborate with a friend who can put in the tune and arrange the lyrics, if it needs to be done. Song writing is a form of creative writing and it does involve a lot of creative process to make an impressive song.
