I use this series almost exclusively in my teaching, and am very pleased with it. The theory book reinforces concepts introduced in the lesson book, and does a nice job. For most students, the activities seem appropriately paced -- there's enough repetition that they can practice the new concept, but not so much that it seems like drudgery.The curriculum is geared toward elementary school students, and this is particularly important to consider when it comes to theory books. The reading and math concepts in this book are frustratingly difficult for most kindergarteners (and even some first graders), while the activities seem a bit "young" for middle schoolers. For elementary school age students, however, the activities seem appropriate and even fun.Level 1A covers concepts all the way from finger numbers and quarter notes to recognizing steps and skips on the grand staff. I appreciate that sight reading is introduced with landmark notes. This helps the students learn to recognize the actual notes, rather than relying on hand positions.I usually end up supplementing the theory work with flash cards, in order to aid in note recognition. But all in all, it's a great curriculum and great theory book.
This is an outstanding theory book, for the students using the Alfred Premier Piano Lesson Book. It reinforces, in many imaginative ways,, the knowledge the students obtain from the lesson book. Beautifully illustrated!!
My piano students respond well to this teaching series. The pictures are colorful & interesting & the content is good. I like that the finger numbers move around so that students don't associate middle C with always being finger 1 etc.
The Premier series from Alfred is excellent. I use it as well as the Piano Adventures series for beginning students. These series both move at a reasonable pace for beginning pianists.
Our fourth child just started this series. The music is good, instructions are clear, and new concepts are introduced well. I could do without the 'at home' book.
It seems good, we bought it for a class. Seems easy to read, and applies to our class (for a 6 year old)
This is a good series and I use it with many students. I also use the Technic and the Lesson book.
Required of Piano Instructor. Son seems confident in his ability so I guess they did the job!
