DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. This is just a paper copy of an interactive website. Simply google "music for ear training access code" and purchase a code for $37. You'll get both the worksheets and the sounds needed to complete the exercises. The book is just the worksheets, which are useless without the sounds, and the worksheets are available on the website anyway. Just buy the access code. You'll be so glad you did.
Just another ridiculously over-priced textbook -- and one you CAN'T save money on by renting it. The "Printed Access Card" in the title was not included when I received the book. When I contacted I was told rentals often do not include supplemental material -- even when the item title is "with Website Printed Access Card." The book itself is basically just a collection of blank worksheets (music staff paper) (which doesn't lend itself to the rental process anyway, because returns are supposed to no "no excessive writing"...so even if it had had the card, are you supposed to erase every page before you return the rental?)
it did not come with the promised access card. i had to pay for that by it self which cost about the same amount as the book.
Watch Out. We got the Teacher Edition which was blacked out to make it look like the student edition. HELLO! You are going to notice that it is the Teacher Edition when you open the book! Now I have to buy another book for $129. So I spent over $250 for the same book!!! $96 for the Teacher Edition $129 for the Student Edition plus overnight shipping so my daughter can have in time for ther next class because she needs the Student Edition. Make sure you are purchasing the right book!
Very frustrating. This product used to come with a CD-ROM and was self-contained. Now, in the Fourth Edition you can ONLY use it through the website which you must PAY for after the first semester. The book is a book of answer sheets, so you can't use it without the content. If you want to be able to use the book without having to pay more than the purchase price and/or without having to be online, I'm told the 3d edition is the way to go.
We purchased this item "new" and in the description it states that it comes with an access card. Yet, there was no access card when it came. I've contacted about this issue. If it changes I'll update this post. We already had the same experience as someone else in that we ordered what we thought was the student edition and received the teacher edition. We have already paid double for this book, as now we have both, and I'll be really upset if we have to purchase the access card separately. This is not ethical, , if this is the case.As an update to this comment...I contacted and they apologized profusely and sent a new book and access card by overnight shipping with a return shipping info for the book that didn't contain the access card. I'd now give it 5 stars. Thank you !
I am on my third semester using this textbook. I don't know how the authors intended it to be used, but I cannot believe that people can write down the dictation of all the music in this text after only four semesters. I have been playing music (piano, flute, voice) all my life, and as an older student, that means it has been a long time. I spend hours and hours practicing these exercises and feel no better at it than before I started. The exercises get too difficult way too quickly. In my second semester with this test a full third of the class received failing grades. Rather than encouraging me (and others) to continue my music studies, I have decided that it is time to try something else. This book/class was the deciding factor.With people complaining that there is not enough arts education in the schools anymore, I would think the authors would want to encourage students to study music. The more people that have studied the subject, the more likely they are to advocate for it in the public schools. This book leads to a very miserable experience in the study of music and probably causes many potential advocates for the arts to leave. I believe learning should be fun, and this book was anything but.I have come away from this text/class believing there has to be a better way. Just because this is what has always been done, does not mean it is the best way to do it.
Seller was great very understanding, however When i got this material i found that it was the teachers addition which is illigal at my college this was most annoying.
