This is a nice little gift book for fans of Arnold Palmer, which is certainly a large market. However, I feel the need to warn potential buyers that the online description of it as a "vivid biographical portrait" is misleading. Of the 135 small pages of text, roughly half are photos. Fine photos they are, by an acclaimed sports photographer, but they seem randomly chosen mostly from the peak of his career and often bear no relation to the adjacent prose. And the writing constitutes not so much a biography but a reflective essay on the roots of Palmer's considerable and enduring appeal. Although fans will not need convincing, Feinstein makes the case that if his subject is arguably not the greatest, he is undoubtedly the most charismatic golfer of modern times. He does this mostly through anecdotes, some of them unflattering to other high-profile players, that show how genuinely and remarkably personable Palmer is. In an age where sports celebrity has become synonymous with aloofness from fans, the main appeal of this picture book is capturing the nostalgia for an athlete who not only inspired but also enjoyed them.

Normally, I love Feinstein, however this is primarily a book of photographs. The photographs are, unfortunately, all taken from the same group of events. There should be a broader, more diverse, collection of photographs. Disappointing.

I very happy with this book on Arnold. One of the great players in the history of the game is always worth reading about. Wish Tiger could take the time to read and understand what simple things have made the King so beloved!

I enjoyed this book very much and have suggested it to others. As a golfing household this book was right up my ally and was very informative and quit fun to read. I learned many things about the Great Palmer that makes me admire him even more than before. It may not help your golf game but it shows you what golf is suppose to be about.

While this book does have some nice photos of Palmer from his glory days, overall I was disappointed. The book is a bit skimpy at 135 pages and 5x7 format. With all the options available, this one seems to have barely made it to print. The content is good - just not enough. I was disappointed and would only recommend this for the die-hard Arnold Palmer fan.

If you love golf or Arnold Palmer, and the two go together, you'll love this book. Jack and Tiger and all the greats before and after will have their place in golf history, but Arnie made the game of golf popular. Everytime he stepped out on the course, he displayed golf was to be enjoyed and it was a gentleman's game. Sometimes I think more of what he did for the game was done off the course. There's never been a more fan friendly professional athlete than Arnold Palmer. The only thing I didn't like about the book, it was too short. If you like Arnie, buy the book.

A really nice story and series of stories. Nothing really new here which is a bit unfortunate, but still, if you are a Palmer fan, it is a good read. Something you want for your collection.

This was an awesome book to read. What great insight to a graet man. The photos are incredible. john feinstein is as good an Author as they come. 5 star all the way.
