Well done. Despite a few typos it is an excellent beginning. Hopefully more to come. Wrestling is so much more than a simple physical sport. It I s not unlike a game of chess but using our bodies to establish control, dominance and ultimately to pin. It is as old as mankind itself. Each culture has it's own form of wrestling, Kushti, flu a, catch as catch can, freestyle, Greco, etc. it is a form of bonding between men. Today unfortunately it has become suspect due to body contact. This is a shame, as it gave. Men a sense of physical play, and ultimately camaraderie that is sorely lacking in today's world.
I had been involved in the underground wrestling scene on the East coast all around America that Mr. Yeates memoirs cover. He brought back the recollection of the excitement hooking up with a somewhat stranger to engage in a very private sport that outside of colleges and high schools wasn't commonly practiced among adult men. I found the read was very provocative and enjoyable. I highly recommend it to guys that are excited at the prospect of wrestling another guy in a private or semi private setting.
A.C. Yates delves deep into his personal feelings from the past to the present regarding wrestling and its impact on his socio-physiological development. In doing so, he takes the reader along on his journey of discovery so we can attain a glimpse of the private lives of famous wrestlers and other non-professional wrestlers who left a lasting impression on Yates' life, especially in regard to accepting his sexual orientation whereby the author is finally free to embark on a happier, more fulfilling life.
Despite some minor errors, this was a great read. This was the best $2.99 I have ever spent! A.C. describes how wrestling was crucial to both his mental and spiritual growth and becoming complete and whole. His profiles of some of the guys he wrestled during his two-year journey to become the man he is today are very real. I enjoyed how he picked a variety of guys. They provide his readers a good understanding of the various types of men involved in underground (motel) wrestling. I especially enjoyed his pointing out that this kind of wrestling does not always involve sex and that heterosexual men are often underground wrestlers as well as gay and bisexual men. I also enjoyed that two of the wrestlers depicted were older men, who were very masculine and very strong. As an underground wrestler myself who has been involved in underground wrestling for twenty years now, I can testify to the accuracy of his account and descriptions. I certainly identified with A.C. while reading his work. I, also, finally came to terms with my masculinity and sexuality through wrestling. It has given me the confidence and self-assurance to be who I am, like him. It has allowed me to be confident and friendly with other men finally, too. I am a different and better person because of wrestling. There is nothing quite like stripping nearly naked with another man and having only your body to use against his to struggle together, man against man., in a primal way. I highly recommend it and A.C.'s insights explain why. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in motel wrestling and, more generally, to anyone who wants to read about becoming a complete and whole man.
Oh my word... an incredible read. The world of unofficial wrestling with more extras than you would bargain for. This is a journey in more ways than one. The journey of a wrestler exploring his own sexuality. A journey that takes him to many cities and countries around the world. Many of these cities I have visited myself, and he gives excellent depth to his story, with the descriptive scenery, food and drinks, you can almost feel as though you are there. The moves and holds described in his wrestling matches, that lead to erotic explorations of two mens bodies. Erotic sex in one night stands, and the bonds that can develop within these encounters. With an open mind, I so enjoyed the enlightenment into such a world. A world I knew nothing about before. With scenes of bondage, recreational drugs, lack of inhibitions and tenderness, this book has it all.I applaud A.C Yates with his exceptional descriptive insight into a world I previously knew nothing about. In reading this book, I now realise this is book 2 in this authors series. I now need to buy book 1 to see how he began his personal journey. I thoroughly recommend this book as an extremely good read. I give this a five star review, because it has left me wanting to read more from this author. A very well done from me A.C Yates. A very eloquently written book.
