What could be better than a book containing 50 of the best songs from Disney's best period? Included in this collection are tracks from the Oscar winning scores by Alan Menken(The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocahontas), Stephen Shwartz(Pocahontas) and Hans Zimmer(The Lion King). All my favorites are in here and the music is easy enough for most occasional players to follow.The only dissapointing thing is that the book only covers Disney's contemporary films. Music from such classics as The Jungle Book and The Aristocats is sadley left out. A must have for any fan of the music of perhaps the greatest film company in history!
This book has a very accurate selection of disney songs arranged to be played by an intermediate level piano student (includes vocals and chords as well). At first, some songs seemed difficult for me because of the amount of hand stretching, but I managed to master them quite quickly, in about 2-3 weeks, and I definitely feel the improvement in my playing. The good thing about playing disney songs is that as we might already know how they'll sound, it will be easier for us to play them. I would definitely recomend this book to anyone who likes disney songs and who has been playing the piano for at least 3 years to be able to enjoy it completely. Enjoy!
This was the only Disney songbook that I could find that included all the songs I wanted (Colors of the Wind, Reflection, God Help the Outcasts, The Circle of Life, and a few others), but I wasn't really interested in any of the High School Musical or Hannah Montana type songs, or the more silly ones. I wish there were a Disney songbook that focused more on the serious/emotional songs, the kind that the adults appreciate, rather than just the fun filler songs for young kids. I realize that because this is Disney, the "point" is for the music to be kid-friendly, but there are several Disney songs that really move me (and I know I'm not alone there), and which I wish I could perform more seriously, so it's a disappointment that all I could find online were these colorful children's books.That being said, this book DID include the songs I wanted, so I'll just ignore the rest and play the ones that speak to me. But here I run into another problem: most of these aren't the original songs from the soundtracks. Instead, they're the unfortunate pop arrangements that play at the end of the movie. This was really disappointing to me, as it was the soundtracks I really wanted to be able to play, not these unfamiliar versions.While the book itself is good quality, I was disappointed both by the percentage of songs that I have no interest in, and by the fact that many of these arrangements are based on the pop versions of the songs, not the originals.
I just started taking piano lessons in the past year. Being a Disney fanatic, I had purchased a Disney sheet music book ASAP. Although it was good, it did not have my favorite Disney songs such as "Be our Guest," "A Whole New World," and "Under the Sea." Luckily, while looking for other sheet music on , I found this "Contemporary Disney" book. I was so excited to see that it had these precious songs that my previous book was lacking. I purchased it immediately. It arrived within a couple days and I haven't put it down since. So, if you are an avid Disney fan and a music lover, this book is a definite must for your collection.
This was an okay book, but not quite what I expected. There are a lot of songs from Hannah Montana and the high school musical series not just the Disney movies we love. If you go for the newer Disney teen stuff, you might like it, but that's not why I ordered it so it wasn't what a wanted.
I was especially pleased that H. Leonard had the form in which the pop-chart versions were recorded by the likes of Christina Aguilera. I try not to be biased against newer music, but the blunt truth is that the best stuff these days comes from movies, esp. Disney ones, and young adults (like the ones at the baby shower I'm playing for) will get a kick out of stuff they remember from their childhood.
I loved the idea of learning to play disney songs since I'm not great at playing by ear. I wasn't too thrilled with the selection of songs in the book, and the ones I did decide to play did not sound exactly like the actual disney songs. I even found one where I am certain there is an error in the score because it doesn't sound good at all. It is still a fun book, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations.
Some of the songs really disappointed me. "Part of Your World," for example, is written as simply as the big-note version. And there is a lot of space wasted for Disneyland resort music...and I doubt many people care to play any of that. But there are some nice things too, like music from the Lion King broadway musical. I just wish that "Contemporary Disney" didn't mean "Disneyland resort + stuff from random sequels like 102 Dalmations that no one cares about."
