Yeah, I know these are classics, but, there are a few things I don't like about the volume. One is that some of the fonts that are used are just appalling. Cannot see them at all.Also, would be better if they actually had the learning point highlighted.
When these were produced by Southern Music Co., the price was MUCH lower and the quality of the print was good - through all of those years. The new company has really "cheaped" out with regard to quality, and the price has spiked considerably. I'm a flute teacher and have used this book since I was a student in the 70s.This is VERY disappointing, because the content is wonderful
This book of etudes builds. I have learned various difficulties that i did not know about while playing these etudes. They build progressively in difficulty and it is best to work on them everyday :) Each one can be a little repetitive, but they really help with playing ;)
Each piece in this book is about a page long, but has an individual melody for each one. The pieces are technically challenging, so you can sharpen your skills while still being entertained by the melody. I found this book to be a lot more useful than other studies books whose pieces are just about the technical, but aren't very interesting.
If I have to practice sight reading with a metronome this is as good as anything. Nothing I wish to perform, but there are pieces that enthrall me as I work on them. Not elementary level. For once. No complaints from the neighbors.
Recommended by her flute teacher for years of use. Fun music and challenging. My daughter is an intermediate student, 8th grade.
I have been using this method book for my students for 20 years. It covers a wide variety of styles and techniques. It is not a painless book for students by any means but it is good none the less.
My daughter is enjoying practicing this piece of music this summer to keep her skills honed for the school year.
