If your just learning a new sound instrument for the fun of it, then this book is helpful. If you are a bit more serious about playing than got get lessons. As a primer this book works. it is not as helpful as the one with the CD.
The book has a lot of new songs, it starts with the basics, and it shows how to read the notes.
Our daughter started music classes during a hectic time. This exact book was required and we had no time to go hunting for it locally. to the rescue. Ordered late one night and forgotten about until it arrived in perfect condition. It was slow to arrive, but it is exactly what the teacher wanted. Seems to be working...the typical first-time music student screeching has turned into melodic music... :)
This is a great beginner book for students. Several of my elementary students have been able to easily progress through this book on their own, even though they do not have prior music experience.
