As a boy Sigmund Freud dreamed of being an explorer, of discovering new lands and sailing the oceans. As an adult he set out to map a far stranger territory: the human mind. This stunning graphic novel by economist, historian, and psychoanalyst Corrine Maier explores the life and work of one of the twentieth century's most influential thinkers. Freud is the perfect introduction to the man's genius, his life, and his struggles with a revolutionary and divisive approach to the mind and its inner workings. Anne Simon spins this unique and captivating story into a seamless whirl of image and text, worthy of the master of psychoanalysis' most extraordinary cases.Corinne Maier was born in 1963 in Geneva. As a writer, economist, historian, and psychoanalyst, she has produced around fifteen nonfiction books on subjects like psychoanalysis, society, history, and humor. Though at first her interests seem diffuse, she tirelessly seeks out the common links between them. Her books are bestsellers in France and have been translated into many languages. Her recent writings have centered on work, family, and the nation. Hailed as a counter-culture heroine by the New York Times, she proudly embraces her independence from any club, scientific society, or political party and celebrates her absence from anyone's payroll.

A biography of Sigmund Freud in comic-book form. The drawings are in a humorous cartoon style and the book is fun to read. It's only 54 pages, so it covers only the high points of his life and doesn't go deep into his theories. If you know something about his theories but not much about his life, this book will give you an overview. If you don't know much about his theories, the book will teach you something. If you already know quite a bit about Freud, the book will give you a quick, fun read and maybe a few laughs.Another good comic book about Freud is Sigmund Freud (Pisolo Books), which provides a good overview of his theories.

I loved this book. The biographical material is very accurate and the illlustrations have a wealthy of detailed imagery that condenses many of the true facts related to Freud' s life. I recommend it to all professionals related to Psychology, Psychoanalysis and Psyquiatry, as well as layman people.

A great graphic introduction to Freud's life and theories! Corinne Maier has done a fantastic job of exposing key moments in Freud's life and career and Anne Simon's drawings are breathtaking. Perfect for anyone who wants to dip their toes into the subject.

Great graphic biography of Freud. Provides an overview of his life and wonderfully accurate descriptions of his theories. This is perfect for an intro psych course to explain psychoanalysis.

Freud's history - but in graphic novel style! I was delighted by Maier's presentation of some of the most significant moments in the history of Freudian theory development and cases.
