Whether it was hanging out in DJ Hypes BMW or at home with Shy FX and his mom... This book gets so personal with the DnB/Jungle gods from England, you end up feeling like you know them yourself. Also, the structure of the book helps the reader feel as though they are on a time journey through the history of this music. There was so much that I never knew about - the early to mid 90s when Jungle broke and started to be co-opted by outsiders etc. Growing up in the US it's hard to grasp the idea that Jungle was on the charts in the UK... but it was... and is.To put it bluntly, if you have even a mild interest in Jungle / Drum n Bass you should check out this book. It brings home the fact that this music has played and continues to play a major role in an important movement across the world.
This book is full of rare gems, insights into the early days of a rich, vibrant scene. Quite oddly written, nearly as random and mashed up as the music it's about, it seems that much of it was written out in a field during a rave, with D.J Hype scratching away in the background. If you are into Jungle/drum and bass, then get this book....now......
Wonderful book for those interested in the jungle drum and bass scene in London back in the early 1990's. Great read.. written in a way that takes you through the experience of that time period. Would recommend to anyone that like a good non-fiction !
