This is a decent read, but nothing spectacular. This book seems rushed. The information is sometimes taken from Vh1's behind the music episodes etc. Many of the photos are captioned incorrectly(wrong band members named below the pictures).Having lesser known bands like Accept, Overkill, Exodus, etc. was a great idea. These bands deserve the exposure! The problem is that a lot of the material for each band is Eddie's patting himself on the back and taking credit for their success. This is typical though as anyone who has listened to his radio shows knows. It's definitely worth the time to read, especially for metal fans who are not already familiar with these bands. I was expecting more.
A must have for any true metal and hard rock fan. The reason I love Eddie trunk so much is his wide spread love for all forms of hard rock and heavy metal. He makes you realize that all forms of metal are great. It's ok to like Iron Maiden and Stryper. Eddie gives a great look inside each band along with his picks of his favorite songs from each one.
I love Eddie Trunk. I have been listening to his radio shows for years. Maybe I just liked the bands that he covered in the first book better. And why Soundgarden didn't get a full chapter - I don't get it. Other bands from the same time got their own chapters.......Either way I would still recommend this book to any music lover. The stories are all interesting. Thanks to Eddie for being Eddie :)
I love That Metal Show and listening to his radio program, but the problem I do have with Eddie is that he seems to put so much effort into talking about how he's such great friends with all the bands. It's like he's trying to live through them because he couldn't be a rock star himself. There's a difference in loving metal and discussing it and trying to make yourself appear more than you really are. He has a lot of rock knowledge, but then so do I and many other diehard metal fans.
This book was good. Learned a few tidbits I wasn't aware of about some of the bands. If you liked Eddie's first book, you will like this one. The book is a light 'introduction' to various hard rock and heavy metal bands if you aren't already aware of them. Nothing really deep and in depth... but enough info to keep you reading for pleasure.
I've been a metal fan just like Eddie for a very long time and he has done a superb job gathering all the band's information and passing it on to the reader. I really enjoyed the book and recommend it to anyone who is a fan and to the younger fans that have heard of the band's , and want to know their history. A must read .
this was a gift for my hubby. he watches the heavy metal show all the time, and is very knowlegable about metal rock and its past. hes really enjoyed reading this and the first volume. i plan on reading them myself.
After purchasing the VOL I without exploring it and being completely disappointed in it, I fell for the hype that this book was BETTER. I didn't buy this one, not that stupid, but I did sit in the bookstore and read about half of it in different sections to get a good idea. I still wasted my time. I gave it a shot but it didn't pan out. The problem with the book is that Trunk is trying to share all this (stuff) about bands and stories but he is so self centered in the stories, keeping self in the mix, I have never seen so many I's in a book. Anyway, he regurgitates facts that are easily found on most webpages and such. Very disappointed. But not surprised. I'll avoid any and all Trunk materials in the future. I used to listen to his radio show but even that has faded to just a self focus product for him. Don't waste your money.
