The book lays out what it considers to be the top 100 albums in terms of a criteria based on the popularity of the album, the influence they had on other artists and the industry, a sort of breakthrough factor, and a few other considerations besides. It also lists out about 500 songs not contained on those items that the compilers felt were significant as well. While you probably won't entirely agree with top 100 factor (it's seldom-to-never a list comes along that everyone does agree with), it contains a lot of great information on a lot of albums and artists. It's unlikely that you'll be able to read this book without learning a little more about artists and albums that you are already familiar with, as well as get the drop on a few artists and albums that you're probably unfamiliar with.
