This is the Westbound/Junie Morrison era of the Ohio Players, so don't expect, Love Rollercoaster, Fire, Skin Tight, etc.Those were from the Mercury days. This is for the hardcore fans who knows the Players pre Mercury days. So to put down this songbook because you're not familiar with their Westbound songs like Funky Worm, Pain, Climax, Singing In The Morning, etc is just naive. This book would make a nice double buy with Orgasm: The Very Best of the Westbound Years
While this book may not have some of the later, bigger hits by the band, it contains some of their early classics that truly began to define them as a super funk machine. Hello, "Funky Worm," anybody? True, they were with a "small" label when they started out, but that label, Westbound Records, discovered uh I don't know some of the biggest funk bands ever -- Funkadelic, Parliament, George Clinton, Melvin Sparks, and Caeser Frazier. I don't know, but I'm glad I bought this book. It's been easy to use and my band has pulled together some great covers of some of these songs by using it! Highly recommended.
This book of sheet music contains none of the songs that made The Ohio Players a force in funk. Love Rollercoaster, Fire, Skin Tight, and Sweet Sticky Thing are all NOT here, at all ! The songs in this book are from albums cut on tiny labels before they ever recorded on Mercury Records. What a waste of [money]. I gave it one star because that's the lowest I could rate this book. All these years after the success of The Ohio Players, a book comes out and leaves out all of there biggest ( and FUNKiest ) tunes. Increase the peace everyone.
This book really sucks. All the songs that made the Ohio Players are not here. Why would they not at least put a few of there more popular hits in the book. If you are looking for those songs, dont buy it.
This era of Ohio Players music is vital. It is a valuable resource to have this music book in order to get a clearer picture of how great music is put together.
