This is the only series of piano books out there that has really stood the test of time. I first came in contact with them when I was grade school and taking piano lessons myself. 30 years later, they are the only books I teach from. I enjoy the pace they use and the progression of skills that they offer. So often books skip around or don't build well on previous skills. That is not the case with Bastien.
I had a student buy this's as an alternative to the Faber series because an older sibling had used the Faber series and the younger one had learned all the songs by ear. It's okay but really--not enough preparatory material before aying 3 note chords, in fact not enough stuff to make a good foundation. I'm afraid Bastien is on it's way out though of course there are still some good songs.
This is a great beginning piano student curriculum! I have used it for years and find the first 4 - 5 levels great.
Bastien has done a beautiful job of providing fun songs for my girls to play. Use in conjunction with the Technique and Piano books for a full piano adventure in learning!
Fun songs! My 5 year old loves playing these songs! They go perfectly with the Level 1 books!
It is easy to follow and learn from. I recommend it to any and all beginning piano players
Good book but kids will not recognize a single song some are even a little funky
