As I own a Music Academy, at any time we have 5-10 Piano instructors, and yes we talk about books and lesson plans. As my daughter was in lessons with one of our instructors, we had many conversations about different books, as a parent, I can see that because of the way it is written for children, it is a really nice entertaining book and Alfred has these books concentrating on Level 1 & 2 then up to Level 6. Most of the time the first two levels are split into a few volumes, while the latter are single volumes, all worth getting in order, of course. For Adults…. Wait it's a children's book??? Exctly and what we have really come across, as I started taking lessons with the instructors at our academy and of course, I have the adult book, but being a guitarist, this is a new instrument for me.As was explained and is true, the children's book takes a much longer span to cover more material, while the adult book does not. What this means is that the adult book may concentrate on fingering for a page or so and then assume, you have it down and jump to the next step. The children's book does not do this it spends more time and creates more of a solid base for you as a child or adult. So don't be as fast as I was to get the adult book, until you've spent some time with these.Average price range should be from $6-10 each book.Hope the review helps shed some light and understanding, it's a great book throughout all the levels and add-ons.

This is a really excellent series. My kids all started piano lessons in kindergarten or first grade and their teacher used these books. They're fun, both in terms of the songs and the silly drawings on each page. My kids ended up having 5 books at a time for lessons: Lesson Book, Technic, Solo book, Notespeller, and Theory. At first I thought this was overkill, but now, 5 years later, I think it's a great combination. They have different series for older kids who are just starting in piano, too. Haven't tried those, but I imagine they have a good product.

This book is very helpful for the beginning piano student. At this stage they really need a book like this to help them understand lines and spaces and 2nds, thirds, fourths and fifths. I've been teaching piano for 60 years and would recommend this book to all piano teachers.

I bought this for my 10 year old but he felt it was too simple. It works well to teach him the notes but he got tired with it too quickly. He said he would have stayed more interested if it had a tune. However, its what his piano teacher recommended.

We had to get this book for my son's piano lessons. It is what was required. It was reasonably priced for what we could find around town and the book itself is good. I also play the piano so when I was looking through it I really liked the flow of things in this book. I understand why his teacher picked this (and two others from this group of books) for teaching lessons. I recommend it as well.

Not a fan of the Alfred's empire in general, but these note spellers are very useful for students of all ages who are just beginning to read the grand staff. I like the fact that intervals are emphasized in addition to note names.

As a piano teacher, I find that my younger students need and enjoy this book. All of my students learn notes during their one-on-one lessons and on the computer in their computer theory lessons. The older students (approx. age 9 and above) generally learn the notes well with just these lessons and the computer. After the students know the notes well, and they play games during the weekend group theory classes, I find that the younger students need this book in addition to one-on-one and computer learning, in order to do as well as they should at this level.

Great support book to lesson and theory book. I thought it may be too much, but skills are taught in a new way (not as challenging as theory, so wonderful for younger students). Will buy notespellers for each level as we work through the alfred basic series.
