Learning the ins-and-outs of Pro Tools can be a daunting task. The manuals that come with the program total up to about 2,000 pages. They often seem to wander aimlessly, making learning this program difficult and time consuming. I found that this book simplifies that process considerably. It is formatted in a way that enhances the natural process of recording, and the writing and illustrations are easy to understand. While I don't think it should be your only source for learning Pro Tools, I recommend it to be a primary source as both a learning tool and a reference guide.
This is a good introduction to pro tools and a decent overview if digital recording in general. As it assumes almost no prior knowledge, it is a little overkill for people with some exposure to digital recording, but you can find whatever you need to get pro tools up and running, and helps avoid some common problems/mistakes
This is a really good book, especially if you have little to no familiarity with Pro Tools. I am really enjoying the book and look forward to continuing through the remaining chapters. In addition to this book I purchased the three other books, Pro Tools 101 and Pro Tools Power and Pro Tools Ignite. I recommend that anyone that is really interested in learning Pro Tools, start with Pro Tools for Dummies, and then as you progress through the book, find the chapters in the Pro Tools 101 Book that are related and work through those chapters as well. After you finish Pro Tools for Dummies, go and do the entire Pro Tools 101 book again before moving on to Pro Tools Power and Pro Tools Ignite.
Im a Pro Tools beginner, but ive been using other recording software for several years, like Cubase and Garageband, and this helped me tremendously. Well written and very informative. There is a lot of information here and he covers every possible option you have for both any operating system you could be using. Easy to navigate as well, and it's my go-to guide for anything I need in Pro Tools.
This book explains it all for us dummies. It goes into all aspects of the recording process and systems, which is good. but I would have preferred the book be totally focused on Pro Tools. A little dated, as we now have Pro Tools 12.3.1. Still glad I purchased this book though.
Covers all the bases, from beginner to jaded user. Sure the first few chapters are basic, but after that it is in depth. I found information in this book that I couldn't find elsewhere, on the net or in my other books on Pro Tools by so called experts. A book like this doesn't assume anything and that is a good thing. Where it says you need two disk drives it not only says why but tells us what files go where. Get this one and the free .pdf manual download from Avid and you should be all set.
I bought this book to help me understand my new Pro Tools recording system, and boy, has it been great. It has helped me figure out what I need to add to my equipment for recording without breaking the bank.
Great book!!! There's allot of valuable information in this book. The information is very comprehensive. It teaches you everything from setting up your studio to beginning a project from beginning to end..I would recommend this book to any aspiring music producer as well seasoned producers.. it's probably something in here that even professionals can learn.
