This book is a comprehensive, yet easy to read tome that should be read by every Contra Dance instructor. I encourage every Contra dancer to beg, borrow or buy this and read it!!! I learned a huge amount of information concerning this old, but extremely fun dance style.
Great book that is totally comprehensive. Even has a chapter on sound systems, for example. Includes loads of history, tricks of the trade from experience, and cultural tidbits. Has everything you need to know to call Contra including many actual dances written out in two types of nomenclature in case one strikes your fancy more than the other. I would have liked some recommendations on specific music sources, but that type of content does not stand the test of time, while the rest of this book certainly will. I certainly recommend this to anyone who is interested or even someone who already calls, but wants to improve.
